Slim Shots

Appetite control without side effects.

BACKGROUND

If you're looking to curb your appetite, now you can take a shot. Slim Shots triggers the body's natural appetite control mechanism, also known as the ileal brake, satisfying users for long periods of time and in turn, allowing them to eat less, without sacrificing or depriving themselves of tasty foods. You can drink Slim Shots by itself or mix it with your favorite food or drink.

For the best results, you take two shots a day (20 calories each) the first week, then after that, just once during breakfast. Slim Shots is supposed to start working a couple hours after you take it. It has no stimulants, so there are no jittery side effects.

The company rightly advises that you need to do Slim Shots in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise.

PRO
  • The Slim Shots website offers clinical studies
  • It doesn't act like a cure all, stating that you need to live a healthy lifestyle as well
  • Convenient cups travel with you
  • No side effects
CON
  • Slim Shot is not FDA approved
  • There isn't a clear and concise idea of how it actually works, doesn't give specifics about how the ingredients affect change
  • Each shot contains 20 calories
  • Ingredient Phenylalanine (50% of aspartame), can have dangerous effects for diabetics and those with ADD/ADHD
  • Should not be taken by those patients with PKU
INGREDIENTS

Slim Shots contains natural oat, palm oil, artificial vanilla flavor, sweetener, aspartame (Phenylalanine) and beta carotene color.

Phenylalanine makes of 50% of aspartame, an artificial sweetner commonly used in diet products. ADD/ADHD patients and diabetics may experience negative side effects as a result of consuming this ingredient. Those with PKU, or at risk for PKU, should avoid Phenylalanine as it can cause brain damage or even death.

EXERCISE

Unlike many other supplement websites, the Slim Shots site gives relatively in-depth nutritional advice. The exercise advice is very rudimentary: Commit to work out three times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. It also advises that you join a fitness class or devise a home workout routine that incorporates both aerobic and strength training.

CONCLUSION

The editorial tone on the Slim Shots website doesn't lead you to believe that the company is in the snake oil business. There are clinical studies posted, and good advice about how you should eat and exercise. Even though the language is not over-hyped, there still is some question as to how Slim Shots actually works.

Ultimately, it's up to the consumer to decide if it's worth, um, a shot.

Well, my mom gave me some of these slim shots beacuse I have been hungry all the time even when I've eaten a large meal. Interestingly, the first time I tried it I put it in my cereal it was ok, did;nt notice any diif. in hunger. The next day I put it in my coffe and was shocked when I almost upchucked because it tasted verry verry terrible. As other people said, its like a wanna be vanilla plastic play dough that overpowers what ever you put it into. I'm dissapointed because I really thought it would have a "pleasant vanilla flavor" yeah right. Well, I hope other people experience the flavor in a diff. way and can actually use it w/o getting ill.. posted Sep 25th, 2008 9:06 am

These seem to be effective, but I did have problems getting past the chalky texture. Finally just started stirring it into my oatmeal, shakes, or yogurt. No more problems. :) posted Sep 24th, 2008 8:45 am

Processed palm oil is bad for you, but RED palm oil has studies that prove it's better than olive oil. posted Sep 18th, 2008 2:49 pm

Okay, just took my first shot this evening around 5pm, after dinner. Within in ten minutes, I got this weird feeling in my stomach. Not uncomfortable, but just a a full feeling. Unbelievable! Its 7PM now and usually I will start binge eating. But I have no desire to even eat. I am sooo excited about this product! Will definitely write back in a week to let you know how things are going. So far, hooray to Slimshots!!! posted Sep 15th, 2008 9:00 am

These are "the bomb"! I never had a weight problem until early 40's. Then put on 35 lbs. Have tried it all--corti-slim, advocare, usana, weight watchers, jenny craig. Slim Shots work--I don't wake up thinking about how I'm going to lose weight today! I'm not constantly thinking about food, especially later in the evening and on weekends. I am in control, cravings under control and along with exercise, I've lost 3 lbs this first week. Only tough thing is the taste. Do what you have to do to get it down, and have something ready to chase it with! I've only taken them for a week, but have no doubts about this product and how it works! posted Sep 15th, 2008 9:00 am

The good and the bad: Bad first: HATE THE TASTE. Maybe I'll get used to it but the flavor is so so nasty and leaves a horrible after taste. I always have to chase it with something. The Good:it actually works!! My mom and I both use it and it works really well. No feeling like I need to snack or eat more than I have. I am always satisfied. posted Sep 15th, 2008 9:00 am

Because with Alli you are only allowed so many grams of fat per meal. I don't know how many are in this product because I haven't tried it yet but if it is over the amount you will have a leaky oil accident in your pants, trust me! posted Sep 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

ASPARTAME! The product is working subtly for me as an appetite suppressant but I am concerned after reading the comments about aspartame. I have experienced headaches and not I guess I know the cause. They need to remove the aspartame because it sure doesn't help the taste anyway. The putrid sweetness in not good. I will be more excited to continue this when they remove the aspartame. posted Sep 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

This product works. Too bad the idiots put freekin ASPARTAME in it. It will make you sick. Come on! It's not like the ASPARTAME putrid sweetness tastes good. Come out with new slim shots WITHOUT ASPARTAME POISEN in them and you will have something. posted Sep 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

After reading all of these comments, I have to agree with Kat's the most. I, too, have tried EVERYTHING under the sun to lose "that last 10 pounds." Some diet aids suppress the appetite for part of the day, but still leave me ravenous in the evening, or if I use them too late, they would keep me up at night. I exercise almost daily but my downfall was getting the munchies in the evening and eating everything in sight, sabotaging all my hard work in the gym! So here is what I have found with SlimShots: I am only on day 2, but I LOVE THEM. First of all, I do NOT get why everyone is saying they taste so bad - they taste fine! Kind of a semi-sweet vanilla milky taste, which, to me, actually tastes good. No biggie. Small price to pay if you need help in controlling your eating!! Because that is exactly what it does - I use to eat almost non-stop from about 5 p.m until I went to bed. Last night I didn't even THINK about food and feel the same way tonight. I took one this morning around 7 a.m., another around noon, then had a sandwich, and have felt full since (it's now almost 5 p.m. and I don't feel the least bit hungry). If this can help me cut out hundreds of unnecessary calories each night, and I'm exercising, then I KNOW I will drop some pounds. So my vote is -- SlimShots is AWESOME, love it, love it, love it. I don't see ANY negatives so far.- Good luck everyone! posted Sep 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

I'm guessing that you can't use them with Alli b/c Alli prevents your body from absorbing fats/oils, and the shots are all oil, which would lead to some VERY nast side effects (treatment responses, as Alli calls them). GROSS. I'm just wondering if anyone had such side effects w/ slim shots--my tummy is very sensitive. posted Sep 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

Shannon, the customer service reps at Slim Shots, don't really have a clear as to why. Their "professional" answer to me was "Call your doctor". If the people who sell the stuff can't answer a question about something that is posted on their website, I am not sure if I want to use the stuff. A friend of mine who is a registered nurse, said it is probably because of the oils in Slim Shots, but I use it with Alli with no problems. The fat grams are not enough to cause any nasty treatment effects. posted Sep 11th, 2008 6:18 pm

Other than the bad taste this product does really work. The website says this product works with all other products except for Alli. Does anyone know why? posted Sep 8th, 2008 7:01 pm
