  • Established: 2008

  • Headquarters: Heerlen, Netherlands
  • Accessibility: Online, retail locations
  • Diet Type: Supplement, appetite suppressant
  • Gender: Male, female
BACKGROUND

If you're looking to curb your appetite, now you can take a shot. Slim Shots triggers the body's natural appetite control mechanism, also known as the ileal brake, satisfying users for long periods of time and in turn, allowing them to eat less, without sacrificing or depriving themselves of tasty foods. You can drink Slim Shots by itself or mix it with your favorite food or drink.

For the best results, you take two shots a day (20 calories each) the first week, then after that, just once during breakfast. Slim Shots is supposed to start working a couple hours after you take it. It has no stimulants, so there are no jittery side effects.

The company rightly advises that you need to do Slim Shots in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise.

PRO
  • The Slim Shots website offers clinical studies
  • It doesn't act like a cure all, stating that you need to live a healthy lifestyle as well
  • Convenient cups travel with you
  • No side effects
CON
  • Slim Shot is not FDA approved
  • There isn't a clear and concise idea of how it actually works, doesn't give specifics about how the ingredients affect change
  • Each shot contains 20 calories
  • Ingredient Phenylalanine (50% of aspartame), can have dangerous effects for diabetics and those with ADD/ADHD
  • Should not be taken by those patients with PKU
INGREDIENTS

Slim Shots contains natural oat, palm oil, artificial vanilla flavor, sweetener, aspartame (Phenylalanine) and beta carotene color.

Phenylalanine makes of 50% of aspartame, an artificial sweetner commonly used in diet products. ADD/ADHD patients and diabetics may experience negative side effects as a result of consuming this ingredient. Those with PKU, or at risk for PKU, should avoid Phenylalanine as it can cause brain damage or even death.

EXERCISE

Unlike many other supplement websites, the Slim Shots site gives relatively in-depth nutritional advice. The exercise advice is very rudimentary: Commit to work out three times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. It also advises that you join a fitness class or devise a home workout routine that incorporates both aerobic and strength training.

CONCLUSION

The editorial tone on the Slim Shots website doesn't lead you to believe that the company is in the snake oil business. There are clinical studies posted, and good advice about how you should eat and exercise. Even though the language is not over-hyped, there still is some question as to how Slim Shots actually works.

Ultimately, it's up to the consumer to decide if it's worth, um, a shot.

Hello Everyone!
I've got my slim shots today, and I started today @ 2 pm. In about two hours my appetite disappear and I don't have filling of hunger. You see, I do waking everyday, and because of that my body gets a little hungry from activities and fresh air. Dieting and reducing food intake doesn't work for me at this moment , so I needed little help. And yahaa, the test of the staff wasn't the greatest in the world, but come on ladies let's keep it real! Do we want to loose weight or not?
Okay everyone, I'll check with you in a week, and until now best of luck.

I've been on slim shots now for 4 days and they have definelty helped with the food cravings. I've lost about 2.5 lbs in the first 4 days and feel it in my clothes. I have noticed that I've been using the bathroom more but that's great - getting the bad stuff out because I'm putting nothing but good stuff in. Good luck

This product will only work as a placebo, as far as I'm concerned. I take it twice a day as directed... I haven't seen much difference. The green tea diet (with the accompanying nutrition plan and exercise) is much more effective. Don't waste your money on this product. It's snake oil.

I found a concern a person stated about the use of aspartame as the sweetener, stating it was a poison. On Wikipedia (yeah yeah I know...) the Aspartame page explains the molecular structure, history, and research done on this sweetener as well as previous health concerns with PLENTY of references to boot. (Note: the poison concern was probably related to previous concerns of causing brain cancer in rats. It was found false to cause brain cancer. )
Read on!

I definitely agree the taste is bad, like I have said before. Good news: I am on my 4th day, and only once did I take Slim Shots twice in the same day (once in the morning and once with dinner.) I only feel hungry when it's time to eat, but not anymore during meals. I'm really happy I'm not craving anything sweet like I normally do. I'm a sugar fanatic usually!

My mom, brother and I all went to Red Lobster tonight. I ordered shrimp scampi with coconut shrimp and rice pilaf with lemonade. I was surprised that I was craving the desserts like I normally do. I just looked at them and was like, "I'll don't even know if I'll want this!" Normally I eat the whole thing or just about, and tonight, along with one biscuit, I only ate 1/2 of it, felt full, and didn't order a dessert to take home. It was a sort of bittersweet moment. T_T

But anyway, the shots are most surely working for me! Just as a thought- because of the taste, I took it and gargled right after. That helped! I could still taste the aftertaste, but that faded after about 5 minutes.

Pretty spiffy. B)

took a few slim shots over about a week. they did seem to keep me full for much longer during the day. but the taste is SO AWFUL that i can't bring myself to keep drinking them! even when mixed with coffee (and other flavored creamers) the taste is overpowering and just not worth it.

I just got a box yesterday (30 count) at Rite-Aid on sale for $25 (on sale.) I could tell my urge had been subdued when I first tried it last night while at school. I ate it with a PB&J sandwich and a granny smith apple. That was good enough for me!

I agree you must take the shot with juice afterward to help diminish the flavor. It's like a sweet, chalky taste that smells like my art supplies. BUT it's working!

I didn't get any slight hunger feeling until about 6 hours later, when I went for a few saltines, a mozzarella stick and a few pieces of low-fat, all natural peach-mango flavored licorice. Normally I'd crave sweet rolls or something fatty and that would be LATE at night!

I recommend trying Slim Shots, and it states in the information packet that it's Dairy-Free so Vegetarians and Vegans should be fine to try it.

Has anyone tried adding a flavor to the shot? I have some peppermint and vanilla syrups at the house used for drinks and I am considering adding a drop to a Slim Shot and seeing if that would help with the taste.

I have used them now for about 2 1/2 weeks, and yeah the taste is AWFUL! Vanilla?? Not so much I can say that they work well for me. I have noticed a redused appetite and no real snacking. I can say that I have a little headache on the back end of them or if I stop taking them for a day. But I will finish out the box and see what happens them.
