Slim Shots

Appetite control without side effects.

BACKGROUND

If you're looking to curb your appetite, now you can take a shot. Slim Shots triggers the body's natural appetite control mechanism, also known as the ileal brake, satisfying users for long periods of time and in turn, allowing them to eat less, without sacrificing or depriving themselves of tasty foods. You can drink Slim Shots by itself or mix it with your favorite food or drink.

For the best results, you take two shots a day (20 calories each) the first week, then after that, just once during breakfast. Slim Shots is supposed to start working a couple hours after you take it. It has no stimulants, so there are no jittery side effects.

The company rightly advises that you need to do Slim Shots in conjunction with a balanced diet and exercise.

PRO
  • The Slim Shots website offers clinical studies
  • It doesn't act like a cure all, stating that you need to live a healthy lifestyle as well
  • Convenient cups travel with you
  • No side effects
CON
  • Slim Shot is not FDA approved
  • There isn't a clear and concise idea of how it actually works, doesn't give specifics about how the ingredients affect change
  • Each shot contains 20 calories
  • Ingredient Phenylalanine (50% of aspartame), can have dangerous effects for diabetics and those with ADD/ADHD
  • Should not be taken by those patients with PKU
INGREDIENTS

Slim Shots contains natural oat, palm oil, artificial vanilla flavor, sweetener, aspartame (Phenylalanine) and beta carotene color.

Phenylalanine makes of 50% of aspartame, an artificial sweetner commonly used in diet products. ADD/ADHD patients and diabetics may experience negative side effects as a result of consuming this ingredient. Those with PKU, or at risk for PKU, should avoid Phenylalanine as it can cause brain damage or even death.

EXERCISE

Unlike many other supplement websites, the Slim Shots site gives relatively in-depth nutritional advice. The exercise advice is very rudimentary: Commit to work out three times a week for 30 to 45 minutes. It also advises that you join a fitness class or devise a home workout routine that incorporates both aerobic and strength training.

CONCLUSION

The editorial tone on the Slim Shots website doesn't lead you to believe that the company is in the snake oil business. There are clinical studies posted, and good advice about how you should eat and exercise. Even though the language is not over-hyped, there still is some question as to how Slim Shots actually works.

Ultimately, it's up to the consumer to decide if it's worth, um, a shot.

God I hope this works. I'm so hungry all the time, morning, noon, and night. It will be nice to give my brain a break from thinking about food so much. I'll report back. posted Jan 22nd, 2009 4:56 pm

It is a different feeling. It tastes awful--like some rancid oil but I had a cup of yogurt right after, spoon by spoon and the taste disappeared from my mouth. I get the chills because I had rancid oil when I was pregnant. The whole bottle so it gives me the chills to think about it.
it is working for me...started yesterday and I am weighting myself and will let you know if I lost anything. I took it in the morning. Had a small breakfast and a small lunch and I am not hungry yet.
If it works it will be a miracle as there are so side effects!!!!!!! posted Jan 22nd, 2009 2:45 pm

I was really nervous about trying slim shots. I am so sensitive to most everything out there. But after reading all the reviews I decided to buy a box. I went yesterday morning and it took me all day to try a shot. Thats how nervous I was about side effects. So, finally at 4 pm, I took my first shot. The taste was not bad at all and the darn shot really does work. I cant believe it. I had a decent dinner and thats it. I slept well and woke up feeling fine. Its 8 am and I'm about to take my morning shot!! Then another at 4 or 5. We will see in about a week just how good this stuff works.. posted Jan 22nd, 2009 9:07 am

Well, day 1 is over, it's almost 10pm, by this time of night I am looking for honey buns or something sweet. I cannot believe that I do not feel like eating anything, I had a nice dinner, salmon and salad, and I feel satisfied. The taste does take some getting use to, but worth it!!! posted Jan 21st, 2009 9:46 pm

Well, after reading reviews i finally purchased at CVS for $40, and to my surprise, it works, I took in the a.m. while driving to work, help keep me from turning into drive thru- and took one at 3pm, I feel pretty good. Works fast, I often get the late night munchies, so I will see if this works for the 10pm fridge attacks posted Jan 21st, 2009 2:47 pm

I've all ready given this a thumbs up but want to say that I will report back on a weekly basis with my findings. It's good to read the reviews but I'd like to hear about people's results too. Come back on 1/23, and I'll tell you how my week went. posted Jan 19th, 2009 5:13 pm

Just started Slim Shots today. Had cereal and milk for breakfast. Couldn't finish my yogurt snack @ mid-morning. Didn't even want my Lean Cuisine lunch but ate most of it anyway. THIS STUFF WORKS!!! The taste didn't bother me, but I know it does bother some. I didn't sip it but took it like a shot. If I take another one this afternoon around 3 p.m. and it helps control my hunger during the dinner hour, I may have a REAL chance at getting rid of all this extra weight. I exercise but am over 50 and just can't seem to lose weight at the same pace that I did when I was younger. Thus, I get depressed and overeat. If I don't feel like overeating (and I'm eating up to 30% less per day), maybe I can get lose this extra 40# that I've allowed to creep on. I really feel like I have a chance this time. posted Jan 19th, 2009 1:42 pm

Works GREAT for me, but the taste is HORRID to be sure. Kind of like rancid oil. Best I've found is to mix it with a can of chocolate Slim Fast and it's really not bad at all. Slight "off" taste, but not hard to drink the whole thing.
I'm stickin' to it for sure!! posted Jan 17th, 2009 6:22 pm

Love It. I am very sensitive to otc diet supplements that cause high bp and other symptoms. This reallly works. I have no side effects and it takes away the dreadful night cravings. I have lost 3 pounds after taking it for the first week. I will continue to use it. I am excited about losing weight. posted Jan 15th, 2009 9:15 am

It works. I take one in the morning BEFORE breakfast (about 15 -20 mins before) and my appetite goes way down. I do not skip breakfast, but I do find myself eating less and making better choices because my brain isn't screaming "FEED ME! FEED ME NOW!!!". Lunch I'm still under control, and find, again, that since I'm still relatively satisfied, I eat less and can make healthier choices. My most dangerous time of day is late afternoon, so I take one around 3:00 and then I'm able to control myself thru dinner (no 2nds and 3rds and dessert to boot! I'm not all that hungry!) and my eating day is done! It just puts me in better control so I'm able to make better choices and feel full sooner. It's not a miracle drug, but I am losing and for me, that is wonderful!

I am the type of person who is usually thinking about what I am going to have for lunch while eating breakfast, and thinking about dinner while eating lunch, and while eating dinner wondering what I can stuff myself with for dessert and planning for breakfast the next morning. This slim shot really helps get my mind off the food and do other things. It does not take away all hunger, just seems to make it seem less. That is my experience anyway.

The taste doesn't bother me at all. It's not wonderful mind you, but it certainly isn't that bad. Just kind of tastes like warm skim milk is all, but that's just my opinion. posted Jan 14th, 2009 11:38 am

This is my fourth or fifth day taking slim shots and its been working great. I noticed results within the first 5 minutes of taking my first one and I didnt even need a whole shot for it to work the first 2 days. The taste is the worst, yes, but it's worth it just to have the effects. My trick for taking the shot is to take a swig of anything you have (water, coffee, v8, etc.) and keep it in your mouth then take the shot-- swallow... after that, take a bite of food and the bad taste is gone.
I only need one shot so far for me to be satisfied. I've gone down 4 pounds since I've started taking slim shots (which like I said was four or five days ago). posted Jan 13th, 2009 8:06 pm

Despite the fact that the taste is HORRID, these actually work. I'm on my second day and I have pms which is usually hell on my diet, and here it's lunch time and I'm not hungry at all. I do wish they made these in pill form - but it's just a quick shot so I think I'll stick with it. posted Jan 13th, 2009 2:04 pm
