Weight Watchers

A trusted approach to weight loss for more than 40 years.

BACKGROUND

It's been more than 40 years since Weight Watchers came on the scene and started helping people live healthier lives. Weight Watchers helps members create a foundation to introduce healthier choices and physical activity into their lives. Weight Watchers was made popular by its POINTS system. A point value is assigned to each food on the comprehensive list of more than 27,000 foods based on its calories, fat and fiber content. The Weight Watchers POINTS allow you to eat the foods you like without restriction. Simply stay within your daily POINTS range and you can still enjoy fried chicken or diet soda; more importantly, you'll learn that those food choices have high POINTS and you'll be more inclined to choose grilled chicken, water, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Unlike many diets, Weight Watchers also encourages an active lifestyle, and awards POINTS for exercising.

It all started in a living room, where women would gather to support one another while losing weight. Then it grew, and became one of the most recognized names in weight loss. They've remained an innovative brand, taking the plan online, creating a program specifically for men and even launching the Momentum plan to teach people how to eat in order to stay full longer.

Weight Watchers Meetings The original Weight Watchers plan invites members to weekly meetings where they help dieters form a network of support with people sharing similar experiences. Each person checks their weight privately. Meetings are conducted by a trained Meeting Leader who motivates and offers the group support through information about nutrition and fitness.

Weight Watchers Online For those whose schedules won't accommodate a weekly meeting, or prefer the anonymity the Internet offers, Weight Watchers Online makes it possible to reap the benefits of the program from the comfort of your own home. Online subscribers can communicate via message boards, monitor progress, obtain POINTS counters, access hundreds of approved recipes and so much more.

Weight Watchers Online for Men Available exclusively online, this program is tailored to the needs of men seeking an effective approach to weight loss, without the female undertones. The same POINTS plan is used, but recipes, fitness and weight loss advice speaks your language.

Weight Watchers Momentum The newest innovation from Weight Watchers takes your healthy eating skills one step further, by showing you how and when to eat so that you maintain satiety longer.

Read this explanation of how Weight Watchers POINTS work.

DIET and NUTRITION

Weight Watchers emphasizes eating more wholesome food, while allowing you to splurge on cravings in moderation. You'll use your POINTS to make balanced food choices that include whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, eggs and dairy. No matter which plan you choose, you'll have access to all of the Weight Watchers recipes that are delicious, satisfying and good-for-you.

Weight Watchers members can enjoy chili, muffins, brownies, burgers, pizza, pasta and so much more - especially when you follow their healthy tips for lightening the recipes and keeping your POINTS values low.

EXERCISE

More guidance is provided for fitness online than is in meetings. Weight Watchers Online gives access to dozens of workout demonstrations and has something for all skill levels to follow. You can also earn activity points by working out, which will allow you to save some room in your food POINTS for the week.

CONCLUSION

Weight Watchers is a tried and true veteran of the weight loss industry. With a variety of methods to choose from for both men and women, you're almost certain to find the right path for your weight loss journey. Weight Watchers provides guidance from every aspect of weight loss. Food is one of the primary concerns of any dieter and Weight Watchers goes above and beyond most other weight loss programs with thousands of recipes that anyone, dieting or not, will find tempting and delicious. If their style appeals to you, go for it.

I LOVE it! The Points system is so easy and flexible and it really changes the way you look at food. I have been a program member for a year now and I've lost 45 lbs! It teaches you how to change your eating habits for good, but still allows you to enjoy your favorite foods. There are also tons of amazing recipes available to help. My favorite come from a blog. It has a fabulous supply of free Weight Watchers recipes. posted Dec 26th, 2008 10:23 pm

I really like the new point system. I have lost weight and find it easier to count points. The pictures of the different food sizes helps out too because if I were to carry a scale, my book, by points calculator etc, I would need a huge bag. It is wonderful that I am losing....I am a caregiver for my husband who has a brain tumor and this lets me do something for myself. If I want to be around for him the entire time he needs me then I needed to do something and weight watchers was here! Thank you. posted Dec 23rd, 2008 6:07 pm

I been a member of weight watchers for 14 months now. I've lost 45 pounds. My husband has been very supportative and has lost 48 pounds. Going to meetings were expensive. I quit going Feb. of last year. My husband and I continue to do the program. I've learned to add things like soup, bagels, and lots of green beans to our diet. We eat a lot of the weight watchers dinners and have the weight watchers ice cream every night. I've told several people about the program and I help them get started. We love it. It is a life time way of eatting. We do the points. posted Dec 21st, 2008 11:23 pm

I should be a lifetime member. My former name was Kathryn A. Steele. Is there any way I can go on this site and find the point system like I used to use? I liked that program the best of all the programs you had--believe that was around 1996 or so?
Thank you,

I had to laugh and so relate to cedarcityvic. You would have really enjoyed the whole trading points thing for food. Been there done that. I ended up at the Smart For Life program, organic cookies, muffins, soups, shakes and puddings. Losing weight way faster than this program and learning how to keep it off! posted Dec 19th, 2008 3:34 pm

Joined yesterday and spent 2 hours trying to figure out how the online program works. Finally got it sorted out I thought. Then today I had a hell of a time logging on. I got so frustrted I decided to quit since it made my blood pressure soar. Decided to buy the books to use on my own. Guess what? The system wouldn't allow me to purchase the books even though I had paid the registration fee and 1st months fee. So I thought I'd check my email again to make certain I was still considered a member. Guess what? I am. However I have been unable to log on to use any of the program all day today and still can't purchase the books. I got so upset I ate 2pieces of chocolate candy. So for me weight watchers is a way to GAIN weight and have high blood pressure. posted Dec 18th, 2008 4:13 pm

weight watchers has helped me take off 30 pounds and is helping me maintain my weight. I have tried other diets and ways to loose and have lost but didn't keep the weight off this long. it's been about nine months that I have been a lifetime member. I still go to meetings each week for the support of the group and to find new recipes. it's a great group posted Dec 12th, 2008 11:14 am

I'm doing the online plan and love the accountability of the Points Tracker. It lets me see quickly and easily the points I've used and helps me plan what I eat accordingly. I've tried other diets before, and this has to be one of the easiest I have ever done! posted Dec 11th, 2008 11:10 pm

Love Weight Watchers. Really works great because you can still enjoy everything as long as you plan your points around it. Anyone have any tips on low point snacks? posted Dec 4th, 2008 10:53 pm

I am thinking about doing WW. It seems to have good, lasting results. I would like to lose about 70-80 lbs. I lost 87 lbs. 6 yrs. ago on the Dr. Atkins diet, only to have my hair fall out and eventually gain all the weight back. I am very unhappy with how I feel and look. I think I'm going to try WW. posted Dec 3rd, 2008 2:28 pm
