Weight Watchers

A trusted approach to weight loss for more than 40 years.

BACKGROUND

It's been more than 40 years since Weight Watchers came on the scene and started helping people live healthier lives. Weight Watchers helps members create a foundation to introduce healthier choices and physical activity into their lives. Weight Watchers was made popular by its POINTS system. A point value is assigned to each food on the comprehensive list of more than 27,000 foods based on its calories, fat and fiber content. The Weight Watchers POINTS allow you to eat the foods you like without restriction. Simply stay within your daily POINTS range and you can still enjoy fried chicken or diet soda; more importantly, you'll learn that those food choices have high POINTS and you'll be more inclined to choose grilled chicken, water, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Unlike many diets, Weight Watchers also encourages an active lifestyle, and awards POINTS for exercising.

It all started in a living room, where women would gather to support one another while losing weight. Then it grew, and became one of the most recognized names in weight loss. They've remained an innovative brand, taking the plan online, creating a program specifically for men and even launching the Momentum plan to teach people how to eat in order to stay full longer.

Weight Watchers Meetings The original Weight Watchers plan invites members to weekly meetings where they help dieters form a network of support with people sharing similar experiences. Each person checks their weight privately. Meetings are conducted by a trained Meeting Leader who motivates and offers the group support through information about nutrition and fitness.

Weight Watchers Online For those whose schedules won't accommodate a weekly meeting, or prefer the anonymity the Internet offers, Weight Watchers Online makes it possible to reap the benefits of the program from the comfort of your own home. Online subscribers can communicate via message boards, monitor progress, obtain POINTS counters, access hundreds of approved recipes and so much more.

Weight Watchers Online for Men Available exclusively online, this program is tailored to the needs of men seeking an effective approach to weight loss, without the female undertones. The same POINTS plan is used, but recipes, fitness and weight loss advice speaks your language.

Weight Watchers Momentum The newest innovation from Weight Watchers takes your healthy eating skills one step further, by showing you how and when to eat so that you maintain satiety longer.

Read this explanation of how Weight Watchers POINTS work.

DIET and NUTRITION

Weight Watchers emphasizes eating more wholesome food, while allowing you to splurge on cravings in moderation. You'll use your POINTS to make balanced food choices that include whole grains, lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, eggs and dairy. No matter which plan you choose, you'll have access to all of the Weight Watchers recipes that are delicious, satisfying and good-for-you.

Weight Watchers members can enjoy chili, muffins, brownies, burgers, pizza, pasta and so much more - especially when you follow their healthy tips for lightening the recipes and keeping your POINTS values low.

EXERCISE

More guidance is provided for fitness online than is in meetings. Weight Watchers Online gives access to dozens of workout demonstrations and has something for all skill levels to follow. You can also earn activity points by working out, which will allow you to save some room in your food POINTS for the week.

CONCLUSION

Weight Watchers is a tried and true veteran of the weight loss industry. With a variety of methods to choose from for both men and women, you're almost certain to find the right path for your weight loss journey. Weight Watchers provides guidance from every aspect of weight loss. Food is one of the primary concerns of any dieter and Weight Watchers goes above and beyond most other weight loss programs with thousands of recipes that anyone, dieting or not, will find tempting and delicious. If their style appeals to you, go for it.

I have used weight watchers twice to loose weight and both times were successful. This diet is a REAL diet, and not a gimmick or extreme diet. It does take work, but weight watchers works if you stick to it! posted Nov 23rd, 2008 9:04 pm

I lost 145 pounds on the Weight Watchers plan. I lost 100 pounds in 1 year and 45 over the past 4 years. I have kept all my weight off for 5 years now. It becomes a life style change not a diet plan. They published my weightloss story in the May 2008 Family Circle Magazine. posted Nov 13th, 2008 9:33 pm

If you stay with the program, you lose weight! It is all about learning to eat right, no big tricks! The first time I joined (and stayed on plan) I lost 40 lbs in less than 6 months. I have since gained that back, but at no fault to WW. I am starting again and know I can do it! posted Nov 12th, 2008 10:54 pm

Great plan! I have never had it so easy. I have been at it for 6 weeks and have lost 14.5 lbs. The weight loss has been easy and I have stayed motivated longer than any other diet. My husband finally got on the bandwagon and has lost 10lb. in about 4 weeks. posted Nov 12th, 2008 7:37 pm

I have been on Weight Watchers a few times. Every time I failed, it was 100% my fault for getting sloppy and not watching what was kreeping into my diet, portion size, etc. It works if youa re willing to stick to it. And it's very healthy and flexible. posted Nov 11th, 2008 5:23 pm

LOVED LOVED LOVED this program! I loved that I could lose weight and not feel like I was on a diet, just modifying my current daily diet. I was able to lose 40 pounds safely, and have managed to keep it off. And now I'm a lifetime member, which prevents me from being wreckless and regain any of the weight I lost. This is a great program. Losing weight is not as simple as we'd want it to be... and fad dieting is called fad dieting because they never work. Happy to have found weight watchers and got the strength to go to a meeting by myself! Now I have several friends and family that are amazed at my results and joined too! posted Nov 9th, 2008 11:33 pm

Weight Watchers is wonderful! I lost 85 lbs. after my son was born with help from this diet and from walking every single day. It only took 7 months! Of course i was a little bit younger then, but if you follow this diet and combine that with a daily exercise routine you will see results, I promise that. Good luck everyone! posted Nov 6th, 2008 10:07 am

weight watchers is a diet that i have tried several different times and each time i lose weight really good on it. i don't seem to starve on it and i love all the recipes and new foods you can get at the grocery store and also i love that some restaurants have a weight watchers menu. i have lost and gained the same 30 pounds over and over again but the only way i lose it is to do weight watchers. i start gaining when i quit the meetings and doing my journal faithfully. i do recommend the meetings they are full of support and good advice. posted Nov 5th, 2008 4:08 pm

i always said i would NEVER join weight watchers' to loose weight. i'm 54 and i needed to loose weight so i went to a meeting and joined. i've learned what to eat and how to do it the healthy way instead of just eating any ole' thing. i didn't want to be fat when i got old. so i've done this for myself before it got too late. i've tried the other diets and it cost too much to buy their foods and i was always starving after i ate their meals. this works and you have to make a commitment to yourself and you don't have to buy any special foods, use what you have at home. posted Nov 3rd, 2008 4:30 pm

I joined WW about 11 weeks ago, and have lost 18.4 pounds. It is much easier than i could have imagined. Some weeks I do go up a pound, but I know exactly what I did to make that happen. Portion control is a big thing, instead of 2 pieces of pizza, i have 4, and there is the extra pound. But the next week i get right back on track. I have tried all the diets, but this is one diet, that really isnt a diet, that works!! posted Nov 1st, 2008 6:09 pm

Weight Watchers really opened my eyes to portion control and nutritional values. It's an excellent support system and recommend it to anybody who is struggling on their own. posted Nov 1st, 2008 4:45 pm
