Tapeworm Diet
This dangerous parasite is banned in the U.S.
Eating cabbage soup for two weeks. Exercising three times day. Drinking water with lemon juice and cayenne pepper for 10 days. We can all admit to going to great lengths, even if just once, to lose those unwanted pounds. But the Tapeworm Diet has to get as extreme and desperate as the world of dieting tricks and methods come. The good news is that importing or selling tapeworms in the U.S. is illegal. Tapeworms though, do occur in undercooked beef or raw meat dishes which are prone to contamination.
So what does a tapeworm in your gut actually do? It secretes proteins in our intestinal tract that make our digestion of food much less efficient. A less efficient digestive systems means that you can consume more calories through your food since your "body guest" is also noshing on them for his own growth purposes. Some scientists estimate that those infected with a single tapeworm can lose up to one or two pounds each week. Certain tapeworms can be downright lethal like a pork tapeworm, but for beef tapeworms, you can clear up an infection by taking a dose of antibiotics.
Some diet gimmicks have created tapeworm pills but since then the FDA has intervened and banned these unsubstantiated and dangerous products.
- Weight loss is pretty much guaranteed
- A scientist in Japan believes that tapeworms can also help clear up allergies like hay fever
- Can be deadly
- Banned by the FDA
- Medical intervention may be needed to get rid of the tapeworm
- There are side effects to having a tapeworm
- Can't purchase or import one
- Once you get rid of the tapeworm, you risk putting weight back if you continue eating like you have a tapeworm
The Tapeworm Diet is anything but a diet. Since a sizable percentage of what you eat goes to the tapeworm, it's a virtual dieter's dream: eat whatever you want and lose weight. Taking extra vitamins during an infection might help to prevent the massive nutrient loss. Following an infection, all those lost pounds can be easily put back on if you don't follow a healthy eating plan for just you and not your parasite.
Treatment for getting rid of a tapeworm varies from grotesque to the less grotesque. A strong course of antibiotics is prescribed to get rid of the tapeworm.
Let us truly be thankful for the great strides in the hygienic practices of our farms and slaughterhouses and in our water supply. Even though our bodies have evolutionarily become used to being hosts to a myriad of parasites, our modern day ways have no doubt helped us to stay healthier and live longer. Voluntarily ingesting a tapeworm to lose weight is legally a difficult thing to pull off, not to mention dangerous. Your safer and less uncomfortable way to shed some pounds is probably heeding the advice of science and research: Consume less calories and stay active. Needless to say, this is one approach to weight loss that is not smart nor safe and should not be persued by anyone.

This is the craziest thing I've wver heard of. I intend to use this as an example in my thesis: The Cost of Beauty. If you wnat to loose weight, but don't want to work for it then you will most likely gain it all back. When you work hard for something it means more to you. If you want to loose weight, eat right and exercise regularly. Remember the risks involved with this diet. You could literally die from this.

This is the STUPIDEST diet I've ever heard of. I plan on using this diet as a source for my thesis: The Cost of Beauty. If you are so desperate to lose weight, stop eating junk and work out regularly. When you work hard for something, it means more to you and you'll be less likely to gain all your weight back.

Hi,
posted Jan 13th, 2010 7:23 pmI also have an issue with my weight. Always have. Actually, I am disappointed today that I lost over 30 pounds last year and have now put nearly every pound back on. The problem is that I love to eat... I love it. Nothing makes my day more than eating. Now that my fiance is asking me to loose weight... I know that I must. This is why I have been researching tape worms. This is absolutely ridiculous-- insane. But what else do we do... just because some idiots overused hydroxycut we now have lost our miracle pill. The new hydroxycut formula does not work--- uuuuhhhh, what do we do fat people? we need fat blockers or something... but still, a tape worm is just disguisting--- did anyone read the part about it hanging out of the anus at any given moment? Imagine having a dress on when that happens...

Ya, the product is great as long as the worm doesnt migrate and start laying eggs in your liver, kidneys or brain. Guess thats just one of those pesky side effects.

Reading this article describing the diet reminds me of the scene in Alien where it bursts out of the guy's stomach and scurries across the floor seeking refuge. Only wanting to find another host to infest and nurture it to full fruition. Back to the ole tried and true, "Art imitating life or life imitating art?". Interesting that the user, "Greg" used the term, "Infected" when promoting this diet and giving his little slimy organism friend accolades. This is a scary mindset and sets off my crazy alarm. The term utilized is both accurate and true. You are "infecting" your body with a parasite that your body was designed to fight off. You're throwing off the natural delicate balance of how the body responds to infection and disease that no amount of supplements will counteract. Your body is going to work overtime fighting this thing in your stomach (plus the dependency on supplements) that after the tapeworm has exited your body, your immune system is going to be so damaged, you'll pass away from the common cold. In my opinion, there is no difference with the extremism of labeling this as a new fad diet and labeling anorexia as a, "optimal way to lose those unwanted pounds so come on people and practice gagging on your finger while wrenching over a toilet". Can't you just imagine the cartoon like promotional commercial. I'm not trying to make light of anorexia as that is a serious disorder and addiction too many people suffer from. I am only attempting to utilize the shock factor and have people who consider this diet as being legit start to realize the ramifications of parasitic infestations. I can't help but to feel as though our warnings are falling on deaf ears and people when faced with extreme circumstances shall attempt extreme measures for resolution. People shall do what they want to their own bodies (not heeding warnings from the masses) only to rely on other people to correct stupidity through medicinal recourse and excuse lack of responsibility by labeling it a disorder. This diet is simply a new way of playing Russian Roulette. Replace gun with tapeworm and let the games begin!

You must be pretty stupid to risk your life for something so superficial. In the end, you will either die or just gain all the weight back. The human body should never be treated this way. This is definitely a new low in this stupid American obsession of losing weight.

Greg, your a fool...those who want to follow Greg, wake up...this is not the way to get healthy...people die from having these worms inside them, and some people die very painfully and after a very short time of ingesting the larvae...

I struggle with my weight. I'm waaaaay overweight and have always struggled, even when I was nearly normal. However, I would not even consider this. I won't even consider weight loss surgery because, although I find myself fighting tooth and nail to get my diet and exercise under control, I do understand and accept that it IS under my own control. Only I can change how I live my life. I started at the gym about a month ago. I started slow. I do cardio 3 times a week at 30 minutes. This is not very hard at all and I'm a size 26 right now. It's a little hard at the end of the half hour but some days, depending on how well I eat (I still mess up all the time), I can go the full hour. I make small steps, I run errands that I would normally avoid, I forgive my mistakes, I acknowledge that no matter how much I lose at a diet or with some gimic, if I don't change my lifestyle and how I relate to food and exercise, it'll come right back. I'd gotten down to a size 18 on Stacker's, a few years later I'm bigger than ever at a size 26. Shortcuts very, very rarely ever work. It's a process.

i had a serious infection of pin worms when i was 14 i got one from eating infected meat. i repeat i got one somewhere along the way in a piece of infected meat. that one soon became 100's of thousands unbeknownst to me. i woke up one day and couldnt stop throwing up and was in terrible pain. i was rushed to the hospital with a burst appendix. when they brought me in for surgery to remove it the doctors found that my appendix burst because it was litteraly swarming with worms. along with everything else in my body. liver, kidneys, and intestianl track. if my appendix hadnt burst when it did and i hadnt been open up the doctors said i would have died. i was in the hospital for a month on many drugs to try to repair the damge i had done to my organs and to remove the infestation. a tape worm is in the same family as what i had been infected with please i beg all who are considering this to please read what ive written and sit and gestate it before u dismiss it. true i did have oin worm but also true is they are almost the same thing. after a parasitic worm isnt getting the things it wants or is to cramped for space they will burrow their way out seeking shelter elsewere. that means any other parts of u is fair game there isnt any " off limits" including the brain. please just think about it

Yes the tapeworm diet does work for SOME people, others they die or are sick because it goes to the brain instead. A tapeworm is a living creature therefor its unpredicatable and this is unlike any diet out there because a living thing inside you who really doesnt care if you lose weight or live or whatever is eating away at your body. Also im sick of all these people saying get off your lazy buts and crap because unless you've ever had a weight problem you dont know what its like. Bottom line dont do it... I'd do it if it wern't something so unpredicatable but that tapeworm can go and eat anything it chose's to eat so if you take all the right precautions like vitamins and getting rid of it properly it can go to your brain or eat your liver ect.

A few things: first of all, it's spelled "exercise", for those who are having a little trouble with it. Secondly, those of you who think that you're ready to do anything to lose weight, probably think that way because you still have most of your health intact. Picture yourself in a hospital bed, with tubes in your nose to feed you, down your throat, catheterized because you can't urinate after surgery, and all independence lost for the rest of your life, because you decided to go the easy way, and let a parasite take over your digestive tract. The thing is, it *DID* take over your digestive tract, lived long, prospered, and multiplied madly, which is why you will now do none of the above. Better yet, as was mentioned earlier, what about if you get a tapeworm in the wrong segment of its *VERY* complex life cycle, and instead of lodging in your gut, it says "forget this", and takes a hike to your brain, instead? Now, instead of a wrecked intestinal tract, you now have an organism eating holes in your brain, slowly causing you to lose function, memory, coordination, and eventually, your sanity, and your life. Is this probability worth risking, just because you want the rest of the world to believe that you eat 100 calories a day, and still pack hefty amounts of blubber on that five-foot two, 320 lb body? IF ANY OF YOU OUT THERE CAN SERIOUSLY MAKE A SIMILAR CLAIM AND SUPPORT IT, STEP FORWARD AND IDENTIFY YOURSELVES, AND I WILL MAKE US BOTH A HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY - SUCH A THING VIOLATES SOME OF THE SOUNDEST LAWS OF PHYSICS!!!
posted Nov 12th, 2009 1:18 amI know these things because I used to do them, too! I would be asked; "...what did you eat, yesterday?", and I would answer something in the line of; "...um, let's see, I had half a cracker with half a gram of peanut butter smeared on it for breakfast, a piece of toast, dry, for lunch, and a carrot, and two kidney beans for dinner"; "WOW!", would be the response, my friends and family so proud of my dedication, and when, a month later, the scales showed that I had actually GAINED 15 lbs to my 240 lb frame, we would all shake our heads, and someone would say; "....oh, poor John, his body just can't lose weight - it's a metabolism issue...". Meanwhile, my real intake was more along the lines of half a bag of jelly beans for breakfast, along with an entire box of extra-frosted pop-tarts, six creme-filled doughnuts, three cups of coffee, with 15 teaspoons of sugar, and, of course, that half cracker and that smudge of peanut butter. Lunch and dinner were similar, except that I replaced those crappy jellybeans with something a little more nutritious, like an entire jumbo-sized bag of snickers juniors, and the pop-tarts were usually supplanted by two double Big-Macs with super-sized fries, or maybe an entire family bucket from KFC, and the coffee, by two jumbo cokes - all to go, of course.
The only way I lost weight was to be truthful about what I ate, and to eat things that were good to, and for me. I got active, even if it really sucked at first, and even if it was through baby steps that eventually added up. Did I miss my decadent ways, and my habits of eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted to? Of course I did, and I think that anyone who tries to paint a rainbow and singing birds picture through the early times of a lifestyle adjustment, is doing all of us a diservice. It IS hard to stay with uncomfortable changes; it does suck to have to admit to yourself that everyone else had been right the whole time, and that you were the cause of your own problems, but guess what? Reality can bite at times, but few things truly happen to us in a vacuum; events in our lives are almost always the end results of one or more choices we've made at some point., and lifestyle adjustments are some of the clearest examples of this reality. Fortunately, another example of the same reality is the fact that even baby steps DO add up, and amount to progress, in time. We would all be much better off if we addressed the reality that there's no need to have to resort to dangerous parasites to help us control our body masses. I would never tell a soul that it's easy, but I would tell anyone I can that this alternative just has too many costs for its benefits.
Peace.
