BACKGROUNDBACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

Earn money as a motivator to lose weight? According to a growing body of research, cash incentives and penalties can in some cases, triple the success rate of weight loss programs.

HealthyWage is one of the first to offer monetary incentives to individuals to lose weight. The program can be used by companies who want to reward health among their employees or it can be used for individuals who simply want to lose weight and meet their weight loss goal.

All weight loss challenges begin with a verified starting weigh-in. This can easily be done by any health or fitness professional, or in the privacy of your own home through video. Extensive instruction for each option is available on the website. Once you begin, your path is up to you. You track your progress online, set and meet daily health goals and connect with a community of similar goal-seekers. Some challenges offer achievement ribbons and additional coaching and support via email and the support community. Progress tracking is strongly encouraged but not required, however weight must be verified again at the end of all challenges.

HealthyWage currently offers four types of challenges:

The $10,000 Team Challenge - teams of 5 compete over 12-weeks to lose the most weight (by percentage). The top team wins a prize of $10,000. Second place takes home $5,000 and third place wins $3,000. There are additional prizes and incentives for individuals as well, including the opportunity to win back your entry fee for achieving a 10% weight-loss within 9 months of the challenge start.

The Jackpot Challenge - teams of 4-9 work to achieve a 6% average weight loss over 12 weeks. All members of teams that achieve the 6% average weight loss split the Jackpot. Typically participants can expect their winnings to double or even triple their entry fee.

The Million Step Challenge - teams of 2-9 work to achieve a 10,000 step per day average step count over the course of 100 days. Like the Jackpot challenge, all members of teams that achieve the goal of a 10,000 step per day average split the Jackpot.

The HealthyWager - a personal weight loss bet. You chose how much weight you want to lose (minimum 10%), the period of time during which you will lose the weight (6-18 months) and the amount you will wager ($20 - $500 per month), lose weight and win! A prize calculator uses the amount of weight, amount of time, and dollar amount to calculate your prize for achieving your goal before committing to your bet.

You can compete in up to 10 challenges at one time, even competing in multiple challenges of the same type (with the exception of the HealthyWager). Stack challenges to win even more for the same weight loss.

I was a member of Diet Bet, which I liked but I heard about Healthy Wage and was intrigued by their promise for big payouts. I downloaded the app, joined and gave them my money. I joined two bets. One that I created and one as part of another team. The one I created did not have enough members. I read that if you cant find enough members, the diet team would assist you. DID NOT HAPPEN. The other team I joined has enough members but the interface on the app is not user friendly and I don't like it. I wrote to the company( 5 times at least) because finding a number on the app is near impossible and requested to cancel my membership. They don't allow quitters!!!! So, regardless of me using their site, they are happy to take my money for both groups, one that doesn't even have members. I had to cancel my card just so I wouldn't keep getting ripped off by them. I am not happy that they did not offer to help with all the emails that I had written them. BUYER BEWARE. Don't fall into this scam. By them simply saying they don't allow quitters is the legal term of them saying they can legally steal your money.

I had a really great experience with Healthywage! I did a team challenge last year with 4 other ladies who I had never met before and we actually tied for 1st! It was great motivation and brought my competitive spirit to a new level. I made great friends. I loved the website and app because it was super easy to keep track of our team and the rest of the teams. I also had a really great experience with customer service. Very helpful every time I needed. I like the motivation! I am actually doing a personal wager now to get to my ultimate goal weight... and win some money for a new wardrobe!

I highly recommend Healthy Wage! Going through a very stressful time recently, I had gained a bunch of weight. I felt lethargic, stopped running, and very discouraged. I needed to get back to feeling good but getting all the weight off felt impossible. I needed motivation! Enter Healthy Wage. I signed up for the Team Challenge - almost won the first round, and then won the second! First place, so $10,000 for our team of 5 ($7500, since we tied with another team). At the same time, as extra motivation, we all were doing our own "personal wagers" - I waged $200/month for six months that I would lose 35 lbs. I did (had to for the Team Challenge anyway!), and got my money back + won $800. So altogether I won $2300....just for losing weight! AND I got my Team Challenge registration $75 fee back...because I kept 10% of my weight off for another 6 months. Best of all I feel like myself again in so many ways. The competition, money, and sharing the experience with others enabled me to get back on track. I know, sounds like they're paying me to do this...they aren't! I'm just really grateful I found out about HW!

I loved HealthyWage! The money was a great motivation - but more than that - they were so approachable! Always quick to help and encourage! The participants are the best cheerleaders and i made friends there through challenges that i still talk to - even after the challenge is long over! I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about losing weight and wanting a great way to reward themselves and a fabulous community to share tips, concerns, advice, and encouragement!!!

I absolutely love Healthywage. Investing in yourself is such a great thing! I have a goal to lose 16 lbs in 6 mos, which I feel is really manageable (and healthy). Plus there is an 11% return on investment. Theres a lot of support when you sign up.

So far, I'm really loving Healthywage. While I work on my longer individual bet, I've been competing in team challenges and jackpots. Some challenges are harder (lose 16.6%), and some are easier (pick your own, track your steps, or 6% weight loss). If you are interested in joining you can get $40 added to your prize if you join through my referral link by March 9th using this link-(you will not get the $40 if you don't join by referral) http://www.healthywage.com/referral/healthywager/name-your-own-prize/30771368600057

I love the idea of getting paid to lose weight. Sometimes I need a little extra motivation to avoid the piece of chocolate cake with dessert.
