Earn money. Lose weight. Feel great.

BACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

Earn money as a motivator to lose weight? According to a small number of research studies, cash incentives can in some cases, triple the success rate of weight loss programs.

The company HealthyWage is one of the first to offer monetary incentives to individuals to lose weight. The program can be used by companies who want to reward health among their employees or it can be used for individuals who simply want to lose weight and meet their weight loss goal.

You begin by taking a HealthyCheckup, a extensive health risk assessment that sets wellness goals for you based upon your responses and healthy history. Then, HealthyWage creates a personalized wellness plan to allow you to achieve those goals.

You track your progress online, set and meet daily health goals and connect with a community of similar goal-seekers.

HealthyWage offers a BMI Challenge which pays up to $1000 to users who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 30 at the start of the challenge and who successfully move to a BMI of less than 25, and keep the weight off, through the end of the challenge.

You can also Supersize your HealthyWage by using your own money as motivating leverage for you to lose weight. For instance, if you invest $150 of your own money, if you meet your weight loss goal, you will be rewarded $400. This extra reward money comes from companies that are concerned by the health of Americans and from HealthyWage itself who allocates a certain sum of its profits to the reward program.

  • Some studies have suggested that monetary incentives are powerful tools for losing weight
  • Promotes taking control over your health
  • Can be used by individuals as well as companies
  • Monetary rewards may not result in long-term weight loss
  • Nutrition database only lists calories but no other nutritional information

HealthyWage matches you with the right diet plan that is based upon your healthy history and wellness goals. From the Atkins Diet to Weight Watchers, HealthyWage offers information on scores of the most popular diets and helps you choose which diet is appropriate for you.

In addition, you can use many of the tools on the HealthyWage website to help you select the smartest and healthiest food choices for your diet. The HealthyWage Food Engine is a massive database of thousands of generic and commercial foods. By selecting a certain food, you can learn how many calories it contains.

HealthyWage will help you identify a health or fitness club in your area that will help you meet your weight loss and fitness goals.

HealthyWage uses incentives, social support, goal-setting, technology and your own personal health and wellness record to empower you to live a better life. One of the first of its kind to pair money with weight loss, HealthyWage allows you to earn money as a motivating incentive to help you meet your weight loss goals.

So far, I'm really loving Healthywage. While I work on my longer individual bet, I've been competing in team challenges and jackpots. Some challenges are harder (lose 16.6%), and some are easier (pick your own, track your steps, or 6% weight loss). If you are interested in joining you can get $40 added to your prize if you join through my referral link by March 9th using this link-(you will not get the $40 if you don't join by referral)

I can't recommend Healthy Wage. Their website doesn't give you enough information before you start to understand what all is required. The initial weigh in process can be difficult to figure out and they will NOT refund your money even if you have a hard time with the initial set up. After I signed up, it became clear that they didn't have a very good system in place for the initial weigh in and I requested a refund. They refused (even though I had only been a member for a half hour) and their customer service just ignored my messages. I would avoid them until they figure out how to work with their clients.

I have several friends that successfully completed HealthyWage challenges and earned money. It's a great option for anyone looking for a little extra motivation to drop some pounds!

Healthy wage has a 3 strikes and you are out rule. If you pay, you have to check in every so often (its not very clear as to when and how often). You don't get any reminders or notification if you get any strikes. If you get three strikes - you are out any and all money you gave them and have to start over.
I would not recommend this program.

I love the idea of getting paid to lose weight. Sometimes I need a little extra motivation to avoid the piece of chocolate cake with dessert.
