BACKGROUND

The Diabetes DTOUR Diet: The Revolutionary New Food Cure is a book written by Barbara Quinn and the editors of Prevention Magazine that will release October 27, 2009. This book is designed to help those with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar and lose weight through proper eating.

The Diabetes DTOUR Diet is a six week program that will give you more energy, bring your blood sugar levels into balance and get rid of those extra pounds. In addition to the book, Prevention offers the program online, which can be started immediately.

The foods included with the DTOUR Diet are high in what the author calls the Fat-Fighting Four: fiber, calcium, vitamin D and omega 3s. To make sure you’re getting plenty of these for nutrients, there is a day-by-day, 6-week plan that has been proven to help you lose weight, control blood sugar levels and boost energy. This program is specifically targeted to help meet the weight loss needs of those with high blood sugar.

On the DTOUR Diet, you don’t have to worry about counting calories because it's already done. You can actually eat some of those wonderful foods you’ve been passing up like quesadillas, French toast, ice cream and pudding. You will also receive daily tips and tools to aid in your weight loss to keep you on track.

DIET and NUTRITION

Food is the major source of weight loss with the Diabetes DTOUR Diet. Several meals are included in the program that give you a day-by-day breakdown of which foods to eat. On the diet, you will eat three meals and two snacks every day.

While this is not a calorie-counting diet, meals and snacks incorporate the Fat-Fighting Four. Calcium-rich foods which may play a role in fat-burning are encouraged. Think fat-free milk, low fat dairy, spinach, white beans and kale. In addition, because of Vitamin D's role in preventing Type 2 diabetes, this mineral is also a staple part of the DTOUR diet in both food and supplement form. The healthy fats found in Omega-3s like salmon, mackerel, flax seeds, walnuts and tofu are also highlighted and lastly, the satiety power of fiber-rich foods are a mainstay of each snack and meal on the DTOUR plan.

On a typical day, you might eat a bowl of fortified whole grain and fiber-rich cereal topped with fat-free milk and fresh blueberries. Lunch might be a spinach salad with walnuts and seared tofu or curried lentils and cauliflower and dinner might be chicken with pears and blue cheese or seared Caribbean scallops with black bean and mango salsa.

I've lost 22 pounds on this plan. I don't understand the "con" above about not emphasizing exercise, my book has a whole section showing exercises and encouraging exercise! What's with the "Con"??? posted Nov 3rd, 2009 11:00 pm
