Om

Yoga Dictionary

Also known as “Aum,” Om is the universal mantra of the cosmic vibration of the universe. When chanted or said it represents the four states of consciousness, subconscious, unconscious and the absolute. When chanted, the sound of om is actually three syllables - a, u, and m.

In a yoga class, Om is often chanted in the beginning and/or the end of class. Certain practices of yoga may also recite Om three times to represent the body, mind and spirit.
