MyPlate Grains

Choose MyPlate

Grains should make up slightly more than a quarter of your plate, and at least half or more should be whole grains. Below are the recommended number of grains you should eat per day, depending on your age and gender:

  • Women 19 to 50: 6 ounce equivalents
  • Women 51 and older: 5 ounce equivalents
  • Men 19 to 30: 8 ounce equivalents
  • Men 31 to 50: 7 ounce equivalents
  • Men 51 and older: 6 ounce equivalents

An ounce equivalent can be a slice of bread, a cup of dry cereal, or a half cup of cooked rice, cooked cereal and cooked pasta.
