Moringa Oleifera

Moringa Oleifera promises natural energy boosts and weight loss

BACKGROUND Start the Diet Now Advertisement

Moringa Oleifera is derived from the Moringa tree, which is grown in remote places near Kenya, Ethiopia and the Hemilayas. There are many spiecies of the tree but all have been found to have similar benefits.

This supplement is thought to be beneficial because it's a superfood when compared to most other plants. Some claim it has the ability to help prevent more than 300 health conditions. This is because Moringa contains an impressive amount of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. As a point of reference, Moringa contains seven times the amount of vitamin C in oranges, four times the amount of calcium in milk, four times the amount of vitamin A in carrots, and two times the protein found in yogurt.

Dr. Oz featured the supplement on his TV show earlier this year touting that it contains three times more iron than spinach, which is essential for carrying oxygen around the body so it can function properly.

Other benefits of Moringa include increased energy levels without the stimulant caffeine, and weight loss because it slows the rate that sugar is released into the bloodstream. This is beneficial since excess sugar turns into fat in the body which leads to weight gain.

In this way Moringa is able to boost energy naturally while simultaneously burning fat and thus promoting weight loss.

Moringa can be taken in powder form, capsule form or as tea, which is the method Dr. Oz personally recommends. However, some believe that Moringa tea is not as potent as the capsules and powder so users may not see as great of results.

In Senegal, Africa Moringa has been and essential supplement to help counter malnutrition. The Moringa leaves are washed, dried and crushed in a mortar and pestle and the powder is then sifted like flour and used to sprinkle over dishes as a "spice" providing superfood benefits.

PRO
  • Naturally occurring
  • Easy to digest
  • Provides energy without chemicals or artificial ingredients
  • Found to be extremely beneficial for breastfeeding mothers and those who are malnourished
  • Provides a great number of health benefits through essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids
CON
  • Not proven to cause weight loss. In some cases Moringa has been used to help animals gain weight and females increase milk production because of its superior nourishing abilities.
DIET and NUTRITION

According to DietsInReview.com's registered dietitian Mary Hartley, RD, Moringa is a "highly nutritious, medicinal plant grown in the tropics with negligible calories but loaded with high-quality protein, essential fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. It is a versatile food for livestock and humans in third-world countries, but there is no scientific evidence of Moringa being a weight loss supplement...It seems like Moringa powder could be a healthy supplement for anyone with a poor quality diet."

Moringa Oleifera is now available in a wide variety of forms for purchase online.

CONCLUSION

Moringa Oleifera is thought to be beneficial because of its high concentration of vitamins and minerals and impressive amounts of amino acids.

Though Moringa Oleifera has been used to help animals gain weight and females increase milk production, there is no scientific evidence that it will cause weight loss. However, Diets In Review dietitian Mary Hartley, RD believes Moringa powder could be a healthy supplement for anyone with a poor diet.

The holiday shopping season kicked off much earlier this year, as several retailers opened their stores on Thanksgiving Day. The sales continued through Friday. Things were mostly calm, though customers complained about getting promised vouchers for TVs at a Wal-Mart in Florida. men's new balance shoes The day after Thanksgiving, called Black Friday, is typically the biggest shopping day of the year. For a decade, it had been considered the official start of the holiday buying season. But in the past few years, retailers have pushed opening times into Thanksgiving night. For its part, Amazon.com Inc. is giving customers the option to pick up items at physical locations and adding Sunday delivery. There's a lot at stake for both sides. Amazon has built a following, but wants to grow its business around the world. Both online and brick-and-mortar retailers can make up to 40 percent of their annual revenue in November and December. And this year, they're competing for the growing number of shoppers who are as comfortable buying online as in stores.
