Cook This, Not That

Save calories by cooking at home instead of eating out.

BACKGROUND

Book releases December 29, 2009

Cook This, Not That: Kitchen Survival Guide is one of many books in the popular series Eat This, Not That .

This book, like all of the others, was written by David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding. David Zinczenko is the current editor-in-chief for Men’s Health magazine and Matt Goulding is a food and nutrition editor for Men’s Health magazine.

Cook This, Not That provides hundreds of quick and healthy meals that can save you between 10 and 30 pounds when regularly replaced with some calorie laden recipes. Several of the recipes included in the book compare making your own dish at home, with some of the favorites you might get at a restaurant. Not only is eating at home less expensive, but it will cost you less calories as well.

Cook This, Not That shows you how to make those foods you love with a healthy twist and a cheaper price tag. Recipes are included for 100 of the most indulgent dishes, but with a healthy makeover.

Strategies are also included for how to cut calories and save money when you’re stocking your pantry.

DIET and NUTRITION

Cook This, Not That isn’t a specified diet plan. This book simply tells you how to make better eating choices and encourages cooking at home rather than eating out. Many people are unaware of the calories hidden within the foods they are served when eating at restaurants. This book allows you to still make those foods that are rich in flavor, while cutting out a lot of the extra calories. You will also find that eating at home is much cheaper than paying a restaurant to fix your food for you. Some of the highlighted dishes that have recipes in this book are:

  • Blue cheeseburgers with melted onions
  • Blackened steak fajitas
  • 200-calorie hot fudge sundae
  • Homemade mac & cheese

Each recipe provides the nutrition information for the restaurant-version in comparison to the healthy makeover recipe.

EXERCISE

Cook This, Not That does not provide an exercise plan.

CONCLUSION

Cook This, Not That is a book that can be a great help to those who struggle with eating out. Knowing there is a book that has recipes to those indulgent foods that we often go out for can be very comforting to some. Now you don’t have to worry about spending lots of money, tipping your waiter or even driving to a restaurant for good food. You can make a healthier alternative right in your own kitchen at a fraction of the cost.
