Quick Weight Loss Centers

A diet plan catching the eye of celebrities.

BACKGROUND

Quick Weight Loss, founded in Florida, provides individualized weight loss therapy. The program boasts no exercise and you eat the foods you love including the diet program's own line of diet foods and herbal and thermogenic supplements.

Made popular by Rush Limbaugh who in 2009 lost a remarkable amount of weight in a short period of time following a Quick Weight Loss created just for him, this southern Florida company has helped many lose weight.

Currently, the only bricks and mortar Quick Weight Loss Centers are scattered around southern Florida but there is an online program that you can join from anywhere in the country. This home-based program is a six-week program in which you receive support and counseling via email and phone from Quick Weight Loss Center specialists.

Once you have signed up for either program, you work individually with a Quick Weight Loss Center expert in order to create your own customized diet plan.

In general, the Quick Weight Loss plan provides participants a diet that is low-carb and low-calorie (up to 1,500 calories/day). You buy the foods you like to make and supplement with Quick Weight Loss brand's bars, beverages, soups as well as supplement s that are intended to facilitate weight loss.

You can expect to lose three to seven pounds each week while following the Quick Weight Loss Center programs.

PRO
  • Doctor clearance shows they are being responsible
  • Helped Rush Limbaugh lose 80 pounds in 2009
  • Offers an individualized program to weight loss
  • One-on-one support provides motivation and accountability
CON
  • Weight loss claims may be exaggerated
  • Required to buy program's special line of foods increases costs
  • Herbal supplements and other stimulants are required
  • Supplements may be unsafe and carry side effects
  • Bricks and mortar locations are limited to southern Florida
  • Low calorie diet plan may lead to rebound weight gain
  • Diet program rules are not scientifically founded
DIET and NUTRITION

While all Quick Weight Loss Center diets are custom-designed, there are a few benchmark features that are applied to every participant's diet.

Most diet plans include a low-calorie and low-fat daily eating plan that is comprised of about 1,500 calories a day. In addition, most diet plans begin with an [Atkins] plan of eschewing carbs, including fruit for protein and fat.

(http://www.dietsinreview.com/diets/Atkins_Diet/ "Atkin's Diet")

And while the company remains pretty hush-hush about what their diet looks like, a few secrets slipped through the cracks thanks to Rush's public discussion about his experience with Quick Weight Loss Centers.

There are a host of other food rules that you must abide by while following the program such as eating green peppers but not red bell peppers and not combining two different kinds of proteins in one meal. For instance you can have seven ounces of grilled chicken breast but not three ounces of white fish and four ounces of turkey breast in one meal. In addition, alcohol, sugar, refined flours and fried foods are not allowed.

You can also supplement with Quick Weight Loss Centers proprietary foods which can be purchased online or at one of the Center's Florida locations. Such foods include special puddings, shake mixes, nutrition bars, soups and oatmeal.

In addition, you are also encouraged to take Quick Weight Loss Centers own line of dietary supplements like essential fatty acids, herbs and carb blockers, all of which are supposed to facilitate speedy weight loss.

EXERCISE

You can engage in moderate exercise while following the Quick Weight Loss Center diet but hard-core exercise is not a strong feature of this plan.

Con

Made popular almost overnight by conservative radio-host Rush Limbaugh who lost 80 pounds in just a few months, Quick Weight Loss Centers is a Florida-based customized diet plan that helps you lose weight quickly with its low-calorie, low-carb, and highly structured eating plan. But it is exactly this stringent plan that lands this diet in the category of countless other plans that take off a lot of weight in a short amount of time and then risks gaining it all back once you are no longer on the plan.

But with this rather mysterious diet plan filled with specific eating rules and special supplements that contain hoodia and ephedra-like stimulants, you might want to think twice about spending the money on Quick Weight Loss Center and instead think about incorporating more natural, practical and long-term strategies for successful weight loss.

I started at QWLC two weeks ago. Because I have intestinal problems they kept me off of the supplements for now. However, since they are high protein and I have problems digesting carbs, I don't think I will have a problem using them. I ordered some supplements from dietdirect.com that arrived today. Since I haven't purchased the supplements from the center, I'm not sure if what I ordered is the same as what you get in the center. My paperwork says that the supplements should provide 15 grams of protein and 4 grams of carbs. The puddings and soups are close, but the bars are a lot higher in carbs and contain sugar. Can someone help me figure out what supplements are the same as the ones you can get in the center? posted Oct 21st, 2008 4:55 pm

Been on the "home" program for 7 days now, 3 of those were the detox orange days, so the regular diet days number 4. Weighed myself this a.m and was down exactly 5 lbs. Maybe lost water weight but I'll take it!! I am finding it hard to eat all the food I am supposed to during one day so that is a good thing. Not really sure why you have to eat one of these bars and one of the pudding/shakes everyday, seems like extra calories when you are not really hungry. But, gonna keep following the plan to see how it plays out, got 35 more lbs to go. Would love to chat with someone who is doing it on their own and compare notes if you're out there. :) posted Oct 20th, 2008 12:52 pm

I agree with on the fence, I too started the diet in feb of this year and lost about 30 lbs but gained it back because I had to undergo surgery and also had to take prednisone with packs on the pounds. I had the sales pitch and all the crap and decided to go this route again on my own. I started the preparation phase again today on my own and would love an email pal for support. Thanks for the nashua website. I also found another website - direct diets. I was furious with the fact that you can get the products cheaper and not have to put up with all the crap from the sales people. posted Oct 19th, 2008 12:43 pm

All of these testimonials were truly interesting. I do know that the diet will work but as someone who worked for this company, I must be honest about the sales training. I was actually ostracized within the co and eventually let go because I took the job thinking it was an introduction to a career in nutrition. Your counselors are strictly sales people taught to memorize scripts and the plan. The rest is guess work that many utilize from having followed the plan themselves. The counselor turn over rate is rediculous because not many people can stand misleading people about the products. Again, the supplements and diet do work but employment depends on how much you up sell each client. What was most disturbing was that in training you are taught to make the client as low as possible (to tears if necessary) to get them to purchase. The Care Credit is the worst possible way to pay for this because most people do gain back on restrictive programs. Suggestions : pay for diet only no matter how much pressure and buy the other supplements as you wish. You do not need two bars a day to lose weights. With good nutrition your body will dictate what it needs daily and two shakes or bars a day is not a necessity. Buyer Beware. Most people never receive refunds. posted Oct 19th, 2008 5:28 am

I agree with ya notsosure in the fact that the cost can get ya with this plan and the salespeople at my location are hard core sales! I just had my 4th baby and am going to start the program back on my own even though I bought the lifetime plan only because I do not want to purchase all the crap they talk ya into. I did find the products online also, plus there are many products within the south beach diet that have the same nutrients almost exactly. I am doing the quick start this week and so far after three days I've lost 3 pounds. I'm trying to get some exercise also, but it's hard with 4 kids age 5 and under. I would love to have an e-mail pal while doing this also! I am shocked they do the care credit, the rates are too high, if you can't afford it, don't let them pressure you!! I've lost and gained with all 4 pregnancies and overall have about 50 pounds to lose, I am so depressed about my weight at this point I have to do it!! Would love to have support! posted Oct 15th, 2008 9:58 pm

I just started this program and am on my first week. I am a little skeptic about the 3 lbs a week. I am looking to see where I can get supplements cheaper. Thank you to everyone who post info. It really helps the newbies. posted Oct 15th, 2008 9:40 pm

I joined the Home Program last week, 1 - because I do not live in the area of any of the centers and 2 - after reading all the costs involved in joining the actual center. I was called by a rep and she started telling me all the bars, drinks, and supplements I needed to buy. I told her "a friend" had given me alot of the stuff already and she said great!! Then all you need are the Quick Boost drinks for now. No pressure and very nice, she emailed me the 3 day Program and the food list. I ordered all the bars, shakes and supplements from dietdirect.com after matching the ingredients from the website. I've only spent about 300.00 for a 8 weeks of food and supplements. I started the 3 day program on Monday so today is my last day for this then I start the regular diet. I guess if you don't need the one on one in your face instruction it is fairly easy to follow, it is just portion control and cutting out alot of sugar, fat, salt and bad carbs. One question though I did not buy the EFA-Essential fatty acids or the Carb Blocker, just seems like alot of pills to take on top of the Hoodia and the Multivitamins everyday, anyone else not buy them and see a difference? posted Oct 15th, 2008 12:38 pm

justnotsure, your review was aimed directly at me! I joined last wed 6days ago and have until tomorrow to cancel the contract. My concern is the finance charge on the Care Credit they offered. I consider myself to be shrewd negotiator but I was a blubering lump of tears when I went in for the "free consultation" and now I'm up at 5am hoping I have'nt been suckered into a bill that is going to have such a high finance charge, that I'll be stuck on paying it off for the next 5years!!!!

I am on my first week of this diet. So far I am very pleased with the results. I know $628 seems like a lot up front...but if you break it down.....a nutiritionist and /or psychotherapist is going to run you anywhere between 40-200 bucks per session....and idieally you would go once a week...plus you are saving money one the food you are eating. If you add up the cost of a nutritionist alone, that would come out to 10 weeks of sessions at a conservative $65. It seems a bit shady that they require you to be on "their" supplements...and I am sure if you did the nutirional research you could dose yourself accordingly without throwing out the extra money. Try for various vitmans and supplements at great prices. Once my starter pack runs out I'll probably tell them to kiss my because I am sure I can get the supplements cheaper. I'll post again once I have finished the program to give my overall opinion. posted Oct 13th, 2008 4:05 pm

I joined on July 15, 2008. I was an emotional wreck when i went in, so i kind of feel i was suckered into the whole program. Walking in as a FREE consultation....has never before cost me 700$ anywhere else, but if i wanted to start with a "DISCOUNTED" price, i had to drop that first bit of money that night. Although the program has worked for me for the most part...I feel that i have reached a dollar amount point, that i am done giving them any more of my money. I may not reach my goal weight by the due date ( mine was to be 13 weeks) so yesterday they tell me they will have to charge me an additional 45$ a week until i reach that goal, or go straight into stabilization....well I don't want to stabilize when I am only 10 pounds shy of my goal. ( Went from 177 to 147 since 7/15) I have told them that i will not be buying anymore products, and that i appreciate the kick in the butt i got, but i Honestly think i can take it from here. My problem was drinking alcohol. I have had a few drinks here and there but only on a Sat evening then went straight into the water flush the next day. I will not completely stay true to the diet, as I still have a life to live, and there are so many things to enjoy. The program has taught me many things for which i am grateful for...and to be the smallest i have been in over 4 years is truly amazing. I love the diet change, of course i still crave the BAD stuff, don't we all? But i haven't been starving, and have become quite the creative one with the choices that i am allowed, so creative in fact , my husband waits to see what i am making myself for dinner before he decides on what he was going to have, because he knows, mine will probably be much tastier, and healthier then what was on his mind.

My point is.....every single cost, should be revealed up front to potential weight loss clients. Don't try and pressure them into "applying for a care credit card" ( i already had one, so was pressured to use it) If a person needs 24 to 48 hours to digest the information during the FREE consultation, then they should hold that "PROMOTIONAL RATE" that they offer that first night.

Although they are happy for the clients as they are losing the weight, they are just as happy to take your money, but what should we expect, their first job is as a salesperson, not a nutritionist. The goal is to make the company loads of moolah! Look at the board for weekly weight loss achievers, there is usually about 30 people up on it....If i have spent 2,000 so far, and you guestimate they all have done the same...well....you can do the math...

I do have friends that want to know how i am eating, and how often and so forth, and i will share that information freely with them. Then it's like my money is spread out a little further..LOL

If there is anyone that would like to pen'/pal and update each other of the others progress. ( of course mine being w/o any more of their products) just let me know.

Also, i found some similiar products on dietdirect.com, if you ask someone at the center about these, they will tell you they are not fresh and usually expired. I called dietdirect.com myself and was told they do not ship out anything that is expired. ...Thanks for listening. Have a great week, I will check back on MOnday! posted Oct 10th, 2008 2:42 pm

So far I have been on the program for two weeks and have lost about a total of 8 lbs! I am soo happy! I have tried just about everthing even the real brazillian pills (which are awesome appetite supresants) but I know they are not a healthy way to loose weight. I have all the information on the diet and I am willing to share it with anyone. I have 31 LBS to go! posted Oct 8th, 2008 9:41 pm

This program is great. My doctor told me I needed to loose weight. It has always been a struggle for me. My wife and I joined 7 weeks ago, To date I have lost 28 pounds, she 24. It works. Just follow the guidelines, and in fact, there is more food than I can eat. And you eat regular food. You can eat a 1/2 of a baked potatoe 3 times a week. You can eat beef too. The counselors are there to keep you on track. No they are not doctors, but they do know the plan. Expensive, maybe, but you can get their products on ebay if you watch closely for some savings. This plan works and I am on my way to reaching my goal. For those who say it is expensive, nothing is cheap, you get what you pay for. It is the most liberal diet plan I have seen and I am even cutting back on my diabetic medication. What a difference. I strongly suggest this program. It works when it is followed. posted Oct 7th, 2008 7:29 pm
