Celebrity Apprentice star shares realistic plan for healthy living.


BACKGROUND

You knew her best as Elaine on the popular TV series Taxi from the '70s and '80s and more recently as one of Donald Trump's aspiring business partners on Celebrity Apprentice. For more than 20 years, Marilu has whole-heartedly lived a healthy lifestyle and has published her experience and advise in several books. Her most recent diet title is Marilu Henner's Total Health Makeover. The book focuses on 10 principles:

  1. Watch for chemicals in the foods you eat.
  2. Cut back on - and try to cut out - caffeine and nicotine.
  3. Replace processed sugar with natural alternatives.
  4. Limit - or eliminate - red meat.
  5. Avoid dairy products (anything made from the milk of another animal).
  6. Combine your foods for efficient digestion.
  7. Reduce the fats you eat.
  8. Exercise daily.
  9. Get enough sleep.
  10. Do everything with Gusto!

Marilu Henner's website gives a few recipe examples, but you are given more when you pay for a membership to her site. Some of which include Egg White Omelet, Tex-Mex Burgers, Mary Beth's Antipasto Sandwich, Sesame Crusted Salmon, Upside-Down Chicken and Pumpkin Muffins.

A friend of mine had cut out from a magazine some of the recipes Marilu Henner was suggesting to loose weight. My friend looked so terrific after trying it that she inspired me. I have never in my life tried dieting and in my mind this is not a diet, it is just another way of eating and combining foods. It really works, I don't feel deprived at all, on the contrary, I know I am doing something good for myself. I sleep better. I have been exercising for years and I finally feel rewarded for my efforts. I am giving away copies of the same article that I was handed out. Thanks Ms. Henner. posted Oct 26th, 2009 2:52 pm

i love her book i bought her book about 10 years ago and i thought, no one eats like that. well, i held on to it and i was cleaning out my bookcase and i ran in to her book again and i said to myself oh my gosh thats the way i try to eat now! so my husband and i followed her diet without him even knowing and we both feel great and lost weight. bottom line is im a big fan! posted Apr 28th, 2008 8:31 am
