BACKGROUND

Brought to you by Readers Digest, the Change One Diet was created by some of the diet industry's best nutrition gurus. It will allow you to develop healthier habits by simply suggesting you change one thing every day. It's the baby steps theory - just one little thing as you go and you'll soon be able to turn around and see just how far you've come. You won't have to follow extreme guidelines like some diets require. It's all about controlling portions, relieving you of the chore of counting calories.

Each week for three months you should work to implement a new change to your lifestyle. Start small and work toward a bigger goal. A suggested outline looks like this:

Week 2: Change Lunch

Week 3: Change Snacking

Week 4: Change Dinner

Week 5: Change Eating Out

Week 6: Change Weekend and Holiday Behavior

Week 7: Change your Kitchen

Week 8: Check-in with your progress

Week 9: Ease Stressors

Week 10: Maintain Physical Activity

Week 11: Check-in with your progress

Week 12: End Boredom

FOOD & RECIPE

Each dieter will consume anywhere from 1,300 to 1,600 calories, based on body type and exercise routine. The key is in controlling portion size, so meals will look similar to what you were eating before. You could enjoy a breakfast favorite like silver dollar pancakes with a little syrup, a few strawberries and a cup of low- or no-fat milk. For lunch you would have a veggie wrap, salad greens with a no-fat dressing and a small side of melon. You could wrap up the day with comfort food like a 1” slice of meatloaf, egg noodles and zucchini.

EXERCISE

You make one change a week with this program, and exercise comes all the way down at week 10! The site comes with an Activity Calorie Calculator that gives you a list of activities to chose from then shows you the calories you will burn. There’s also help in the form of tips and a Food and Activity Journal.

Carrie:  My husband is super stubborn, which is why the change one diet has been so great. It doesn't require huge changes, just little steps, which takes away some of the shock value other diets entail.
