About Me:

I am 40 with a history of diabetes and a heart attack 8 years ago. I am 184 pounds and 5 feet 3 inches tall. I have struggled with my weight since I hit puberty. I am a nursing student and I like to read and take walks. I had cancer 4 years ago and from the hysterectomy I have a hernia on my stomach.

The goals I'm working toward:

  • Weight loss of 40 pounds.
  • Increased energy
  • increased flexibility

I haven't felt comfortable with my weight since:

I was a thin child but about puberty I started to gain weight. I have occasionally lost 10 or 20 pounds but I have gained it back each time.

My favorite healthy food:

I like fresh vegetables but not store bought ones. I struggle in the winter with eating salads because the veggies seem to have no flavor. I like to put "light" dressings with less than 3 carbs per serving but I have to remember to measure the food out.

My guiltiest pleasure:

Coke. I know I am not supposed to have it and I have really cut down from a 12 pack a week or more to one can of soda a week. I think the diet sodas taste bad even though I understand how bad the regular flavor soda is. I need to try to drink more water!

I'm inspired to live a healthy life because:

My husband and I are emotionally close to each other but physically we are not very active. I know that my hernia is something that he finds unattractive but I also believe my over all weight is as well. I want to grow old with him and I know that loosing weight will help me feel more confident at initiating physical "action" I'm just too ashamed of myself to do it now

Healthy habits that work for me:

  • I have greatly reduced my soda intake in exchange for water or splenda flavored ice tea
  • i bought a Wii Fit and have started using it
  • I am trying to pack my lunch more at school instead of buying quick and cheap food

My favorite activity at the gym is:

I dont go to the gym. I use a Wii fit board. So far I like the balance activities and the yoga. I like step activities

The accomplishments I'm most proud of:

  • I got my practical nursing license
  • married a wonderful man
  • survived cancer
