Although cabbage supposedly has fat-burning qualities, the real secret to the cabbage soup diet is the extreme restriction of calories. Those following the week-long diet can lose up to ten pounds. Although the diet is effective, and full of healthy fruits and vegetables, it's also lacking in many essential nutrients. The weight loss is primarily caused by loss of water, and those following the cabbage soup diet may feel weak and light-headed. It also doesn't promote exercise, which dieters would probably feel too weak to do anyway. The cabbage soup diet is truly a quintessential fad diet that isn't worth trying.
