Saturated Fat Free Food Labels

Food Label Glossary

In order to call a food item “saturated fat free” it needs to have less than 0.5 grams of saturated fat and less than 0.5 grams of trans fatty acids per labeled serving. This one is important to look for. If you want to keep your heart healthy and manage your cholesterol, keep saturated fat as low as possible. Recommendations call for less than 7% of your total daily calories from saturated fat for heart health. A quick rule of thumb is to minimize your intake of foods that have more than 4 grams saturated fat per serving.
