2012 Presidential Candidate Positions on Health Care
Newt Gingrich was the 58th Speaker of the House and is a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 2012 presidential election. When he stepped down from his position as speaker of the house in 2007, Gingrich vowed to work towards reforming the health care system.
Individual Issues:
- Supports the repeal of the 2010 the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
- Supports a plan where Medicare beneficiaries could opt-in to a private plan of their choice and receive an annual voucher
- Believes that health care should be more focused on informing the individual
- Has argued that Medicare should be re-focused on preventive care
- Opposed to abortion
