Beef One Dish Supper

Dinner your family will love, in less time and less mess.

Yield: Serves 6


  • 1 lb. loaf frozen white or whole wheat bread dough, thawed
  • 1 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 4 oz. sliced mushrooms
  • 8 oz. tomato sauce
  • 2 Tbs. ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 1/4 tsp. basil
  • 1/4 tsp. parsley
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  2. Divide dough in half (save other half for another meal)
  3. Brown ground beef along with onions in large skillet
  4. Drain grease, if necessary
  5. Add next nine ingredients
  6. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes
  7. Pour into a 2-quart oval casserole dish
  8. Let cool to warm
  9. Break bread dough into 20 smaller pieces and place on top of warm beef mixture
  10. Cover and let rise 30 minutes or until dough has doubled in size
  11. Lightly brush dough with beaten egg and sprinkle with any remaining seasoning
  12. Bake, uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes
  13. Serve hot
