Banana Spice Bread

Delicious enough to share.

Yield: Makes 1 loaf, serves 12


  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3/4 tsp. banana flavor
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 cup mashed ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Grease bottom of 9 x 5-inch loaf pan
  3. In large bowl, cream the shortening and sugar until fluffy
  4. Mix in eggs, vanilla extract and banana flavor until well combined
  5. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg
  6. Add bananas to sugar mixture; mix well
  7. Stir in nuts
  8. Pour into pan, bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until done
  9. Cool in pan on rack for 5 minutes
  10. Turn out of pan and cool on rack

The instructions say to add cream but thats not in the ingredient list What do I do?
