Amish Poor Man Steak

Some of the best recipes are from Amish and Menonite Kitchens!

Yield: Makes 8 steaks


  • 3 lb. lean hamburger (may also use ground pork or turkey)
  • 1 c. whole wheat cracker crumbs
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • oil for frying
  • 1-2 cans low sodium mushroom soup (regular, not creamy)


  1. Mix all ingredients and press onto cookie sheet about 1 1/2 inch thick
  2. Chill overnight to set
  3. Cut in squares, roll in flour and brown both sides
  4. Place in baking dish
  5. Pour soup over meat mixture
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour
  7. For a professional touch, add fresh herbs to meat mixture
