Miggy Cancel’s Biggest Loser Elimination Interview

The first four weeks of Miggy Cancel‘s time on the Biggest Loser ranch she came across as almost cold, stoic and reserved. She and her daughter Migdalia Sebren seemed to draw in to one another and away from the process surrounding them. However, when Migdalia was eliminated in week four, a change occurred in Miggy that did not go unnoticed by fans. Miggy says her world fell apart when her daughter left the ranch, but she decided to move on and start new if she had any intentions of staying on the ranch.

The night of Migdalia’s elimination, Miggy was rushed to the hospital, where she would undergo emergency surgery for an appendectomy and removal of a cyst and mass. In the spirit of doing whatever was necessary to stay, and with Dr. Huizenga‘s orders to do nothing more than walked, she walked. Miggy walked dozens of miles each day immediately following her surgery; we also for the first time got to see her bright smile and laugh. Miggy was in it to win it. (more…)

Fresh Diet Takes Up Michelle Obama’s Childhood Obesity Cause

Call it brilliant marketing and timing, but the makers of The Fresh Diet are bringing their delivery services to the nation’s capital at a time when Michelle Obama is taking a high-profile stance against childhood obesity, thanks to her new organization Let’s Move.

The marketing brilliance not only comes with how the company has timed the move to expand their services to Washington, D.C. as a way to hop on board with first lady Michelle Obama’s initiative, but the press release announcing the move cleverly states that the gourmet delivery service “unites” with the First Lady’s battle against obesity. No, they aren’t tied to Mrs. Obama’s efforts in any formal way, but both parties share a common and noble goal.

“It seemed like the perfect time to do this, particularly as the First Lady has made obesity – especially among our children, a key issue during her tenure in the White House,” says Zalmi Duchman, CEO of The Fresh Diet. (more…)

Jillian Michaels Sued because of Diet Pill Claims

jillian michaels maximum strength calorie controlA class action lawsuit was filed last week in L.A. against Biggest Loser and weight loss guru Jillian Michaels. Named in the suit, Christie Christensen makes claims that she “was duped” into buying one of the supplements Michaels has recently lent her name to, Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control. Christensen’s suit is based on the claim that she was lead to believe the diet supplement’s advertised benefits would reduce her appetite or help her lose weight, which she says it did not.

“Ms. Michaels knows better — taking two pills before eating does not miraculously cause weight loss,” the lawsuit states, per The Associated Press.

Melissa Harnett, Christensen’s attorney who filed the suit, told TMZ, “Telling people you take two magic pills and then eat chocolate cake all day is a deception.”

As part of the suit, Christensen is suing Basic Research and ThinCare International, the Utah-based manufacturer of the multiple diet supplement products bearing Michaels’ name. (more…)

Melissa Morgan’s Biggest Loser Elimination Interview

melissa biggest loserEvery season the “honor,” if you will, of being the most controversial contestant on The Biggest Loser is bestowed upon one player who seems to get underneath the skin of fellow contestants, fans and in the case of Melissa Morgan, even the trainers.

It all started in week two, when one of the quickest signs of game play in the show’s history appeared on the scale with Melissa. She and husband Lance Morgan had earned immunity, and Melissa gained weight that week. Trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper immediately called her out on throwing the weigh-in while she stood dumbfounded on the stage wondering what could have gone wrong. In an almost impossible replay a week later, the same scenario played out again, only this time Michaels called her a liar. Fans went crazy wanting to know the truth while Melissa vehemently denied having thrown either weigh-in, even swearing on the lives of her children that it was nothing she’d done, a position she maintains today.

After that, the relationship between the Morgans and Michaels was strained, but Melissa kept her head in the game and continued to do what she’d gone to the ranch for – to lose weight.

Hear our exclusive post-elimination interview with Melissa, in which she talks about how the issues with the trainers may have hindered her weight loss and what she thinks is the biggest benefit of her new lifestyle.

Michelle Obama Launches Childhood Obesity Initiative with LetsMove.Gov

lets moveIn what is shaping up to be this generation’s version of Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” campaign to fight the war on drugs, today Michelle Obama launches her much anticipated initiative to fight the war on childhood obesity. The program is simply called “Let’s Move,” an actionable name that speaks volumes about the goals of the first lady and the organization. It is the first lady’s goal to wipe-out childhood obesity in a generation, a necessity to preserve the health and wellness of our youngest Americans. A startling stat shared by Michelle is that this is the first generation that will not live as long as their parents.

Frightening.

During a launch interview with USA Today, the first lady made it clear why using Let’s Move as a catalyst to stop childhood obesity was vitally important.

“The statistics are clear and they are shocking, and I have cited them again and again: One in three kids in our nation today are (overweight or) obese, and that figure increases for African-American and Hispanic children,” she said. (more…)

We Love K-Swiss Tubes

kswiss tubesHow often do you slip on a new shoe and feel like it was made for you? It doesn’t happen very often. The other issue with new shoes is that whole breaking-in period, which can wreak havoc on your first workout or two together.

That’s why I love the K-Swiss Tubes, a new sports shoe from the popular shoe maker. Straight out of the box I felt like the shoe wrapped and hugged my foot for a perfect fit. And I didn’t have to go through any of that breaking-in nonsense, they were comfortable from the start.

If my word isn’t enough, maybe Jillian Michaels‘ will be. She was seen wearing a pair of K-Swiss Tubes during her Ellen appearance last month, in which she showed the talk show star a few at-home workout moves.
