Extagen Ingredients and Side Effects

Extagen does not publish their ingredients list online. Their site talks in vague terms about the effects of their product and they list some products that are not included in their blend, but no ingredient is mentioned concretely by name.

Some research into the online community of former Extagen users has turned up some information about what goes in to their blend. According to former users, Extagen may contain:

Yohimbe L-Arginine
Maca Extract Ginseng

Yohimbe: An extract derived from the bark of a Central African tree. Yohimbe is taken as part of a number of home remedies, mostly in an attempt to improve circulation in its users. There is not enough clinical evidence to say that yohimbe has any therapeutic powers, however it has been taken in attempts to improve:

  • Anxiety
  • Exercise performance
  • Depression
  • Head rush
  • Dry mouth

It is also taken by some people to improve erectile dysfunction and sexual problems caused by SSRI medications. In addition to improving blood flow to the genitals it is also thought to possibly encourage nerve impulses to the region as well.

There are some serious health concerns about yohimbe. It has been potentially linked to cases of:

  • Irregular heart beat
  • Heart attack
  • Seizures
  • Kidney failure

It should especially be avoided by children and women that are pregnant or breastfeeding. It also interacts poorly with a number of prescriptions, especially blood pressure, heart disease and bleeding condition medications. Our panel of experts does not recommend yohimbe or products that contain it for consumption by humans.

L-Arginine: An amino acid that the body converts into nitric oxide, which dilates the veins in the body and helps promote ease of blood flow. It is also linked to insulin and human growth hormone regulation.

There is also clinical evidence that shows L-Arginine has applications for erectile dysfunction. Its effects on the circulatory system make it easier for blood to travel to erectile tissues, creating larger, harder erections.

Maca Extract: A Peruvian plant that has been used for food and medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Maca is rich in fatty acids and amino acids and is said to smell similar to butterscotch. It is thought to potentially have therapeutic value for a number of conditions, including:

  • Anemia
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Depression
  • Osteoporosis

Maca is also thought to have a number of sexual benefits for both men and women. It has been shown to increase sexual desire levels, increase semen and sperm count, and counteracting the sexual effects of antidepressant medications.

Ginseng: One of the most popular herbs worldwide, due largely to its wide array of beneficial properties. Extagen does not specify which form of ginseng that they use- American, Siberian, or Asian, and the three can have very different effects on people.

Ginseng is thought to increase the metabolism and stimulate the immune system. It us used by some people to combat stress and anxiety, and it has shown some ability to affect blood sugar levels. Other conditions that ginseng has been used to treat include:

  • Diabetes
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • ADHD
  • High blood pressure
  • Erectile dysfunction

Its erectile effects are thought to also be largely due to its effects on the circulatory system, however some believe it may also be related to relaxation and a decrease in stress and anxiety.

Extagen Quality of Ingredients

Of the ingredients that Extagen discloses, three of them are very good and one is very bad. It could have benefits for male sexual performance in a number of ways, however it also could be hazardous to users’ long-term health.

L-Arginine, ginseng, and maca are three of the most highly regarded supplement ingredients on the market. They positively affect circulation, sperm production, stress and anxiety, and have all been linked to harder erections. They are all considered safe for most users and are even thought to have other health benefits beyond just sexual enhancement.

In addition to those three however, they also include yohimbe in their blend. Yohimbe is not a recommended ingredient for a number of reasons. While it may potentially benefit erection strength, it has been linked to a list of side effects that is both long and highly dangerous. Yohimbe is banned by a number of oversight agencies and its use is considered likely unsafe for humans.

Additionally, it is possible that there are any number of other chemicals in Extagen, and there is no information about their relative safety for any given user. They could have allergy or medicinal interactions, long-term risks, or they could pose threats of immediate seizure and stroke as yohimbe does. Our team does not recommend any supplement that is not willing to divulger their full ingredients list.

The Price and Quality of Extagen

Extagen is for sale through a number of different online retailers including their own home site. As of the date of publication of this review, these were the prices that Extagen was quoting its users:

  • 1 bottle of 60 Extagen capsules: $59.95
  • 3 bottles of 60 Extagen capsules: $129.95
  • 6 bottle of 60 Extagen capsules: $219.95

These prices are considerably higher than the average men’s performance enhancement supplement. That would make sense if they were using higher quality materials or processing methods, but all of the ingredients that we are aware of are fairly standard for products of this nature.

Customer Opinions of Extagen

The reviews from previous customers about Extagen are quite negative. One-star ratings are the most frequent response on Amazon, and many of their comments are similar to these:

“How long should I keep taking this hoping it might do something? I ordered three bottles, stupidly assuming it would work, and I’m almost through two of them and I’ve seen NOTHING.”

“Gave me terrible abdominal pain – I thought I might have appendicitis. As soon as I discontinued use of Extagen, it went totally away.

“Total rip-off. I’m not bigger, I’m not harder, I’m just sixty bucks lighter.”

Most of the complaints about Extagen were in regards to users seeing and feeling no benefits to their size or hardness level. The reports of side effects were rare, but abdominal cramping, light-headedness, and dizziness were all mentioned.

Conclusion – Does Extagen Work?

When our team of researchers reviews a supplement, they look at a number of factors. They analyze its ingredients, the clinical data about its expected effects, and they look for as much feedback from previous customers as possible.

This process is harder when a company will not disclose their ingredients. It is impossible to tell how safe or effective it may be and which users may benefit from it. From what we do know about its blend, they include three useful ingredients and one ingredient that is on our “do not recommend” list due to concerns of seizures and heart issues.

From this information alone we would assume that it would be an effective product, however according to customer responses it is not for many people. Finally, it is also far more expensive than other products of this nature and there is no apparent reason for this.
