Renee’s story is a tragic one. She was the heaviest woman to have undergone gastric bypass surgery. When she weighed 500 pounds, Renee was in a serious car accident, which left her bed-bound. She then ballooned to 900 pounds, and 12 hospitals refused her request for gastric bypass surgery because her case was simply too risky to take on. Then the Renaissance Hospital of Houston read her online plea for help and with their experts, who specialize in weight loss surgery for the morbidly obese, Renee had the surgery and for the first few days of her recovery, all of the signs looked good. Then her case took a tragic turn and Renee suffered a fatal heart attack and passed away at the age of 29.
