Pull up your chairs ladies and get ready to oogle at a big piece of man. People Magazine has officially named its 2012 Sexiest Man Alive: Channing Tatum, the actor who most recently gained fame from his scandalous role as a stripper in the 2012 blockbuster Magic Mike.
People Magazine’s Julie Jordan told TODAY Wednesday that the decision was an easy one. “He’s the triple threat this year. There was romance in The Vow, there was comedy in 21 Jump Street and that little film Magic Mike where he was a stripper,” she said. “He’s more than just a body, he’s got heart, he loves his wife and he’s ready to be a daddy.”
In an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Tatum shared that he’s ready to settle down and be a family man, making him all the more attractive to his adoring female fans. “I’m ready; I think she’s ready,” he said. “The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that.”
For those unfamiliar with Tatum’s career and his famous washboard abs, the 32-year-old actor was born and raised in Cullman, Alabama to a mother who was an airline worker and a father who worked in construction. When Tatum was 6 his family moved to Mississippi where the natural athlete discovered the world of sports, including football, soccer, track, baseball and martial arts.
In his teenage years the American actor, film producer, former model and dancer lived in the Tampa, Florida area. Tatum graduated from Tampa Catholic High School where he was voted most athletic and also earned a football scholarship to Glenville State College in West Virginia. However, the promising athlete ended up dropping out and moving back home, which is around the time that US Weekly reports he began working as a stripper at a local nightclub under the name “Chan Crawford.” It wasn’t until Tatum moved to Miami that he was discovered on the street by a model talent scout and his career really took off.
Tatum began getting steady model work for such top brands as Armani, Abercrombie and Fitch, Pepsi, Dolce & Gabanna and Emporio Armani. He naturally transitioned into acting, landing roles in films like Stop-Loss in 2008, and several other indie films thereafter. Tatum is perhaps best known for his roles in Public Enemies, Step Up, G.I. Joe, Coach Carter, and The Dilemma. Tatum’s role in Magic Mike was actually true to life as it depicted his 8-month stint as a stripper in Florida before making it as a model.
In addition to Tatum’s decorated modeling and movie career, he also has quite a way with the ladies. He met actress Jenna Dewan on the set of Step Up and the two were married shortly after in July 2009.
Just because he’s no longer single doesn’t mean the ladies don’t flock to Tatum’s killer body. Though the actor has genetics on his side, he works hard to maintain his chiseled physique with high intensity circuit workouts, weight lifting, and a diet of lean proteins like eggs and grilled chicken, healthy carbohydrates like whole grain toast, vegetables, and healthy fats like almonds and yogurt.
Now, at a stalky 195 pounds, the actor is training to play an Olympic athlete in next year’s Foxcatcher. “I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can’t move well and I like to move,” he told People. “When I’m not training, I get really round and soft.”
Well, we can hardly believe Tatum is ever “round and soft,” but we certainly approve of this sexy pick and wish the reigning Sexiest Man Alive all the best in his career and personal life, which seem to be on the upswing and only getting better.
