Skinceuticals Eye Balm Ingredients and Side Effects

Skinceuticals Eye Balm is made from a blend of plant extracts, proteins and synthetic, lab-made ingredients. According to the official website, the items listed below provide the bulk of the benefits users can expect this balm to provide:

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice Retinyl Palmitate
Milk Thistle Extract Soybean Protein

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice: Aloe vera is a potent moisturizer known for its healing benefits. Most often used to speed the recovery from sunburns and wounds, aloe vera is also thought to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, as well as firm skin.

Retinyl Palmate: An anti-aging ingredient derived from vitamin A, retinyl palmitate is used to stimulate collagen and elastin production, helping reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Milk Thistle Extract: Milk thistle is thought to have an anti-aging effect on the skin. It contains a blend of vitamin E, fatty acids, and an antioxidant known as silmaryn. These three components work together to protect skin from damage.

Soybean Protein: Soybeans contain antioxidants, which protect against free radical damage and have a soothing effect on the skin. Soy is thought to improve uneven skin tone and other signs of damage.

Skinceuticals Eye Balm Quality of Ingredients

Skinceuticals Eye Balm is designed to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines under the eyes. The primary ingredients offer a blend of antioxidant repair, as well as dark circle reduction.

Aside from the active ingredients listed above, we weren’t too excited about the formula. It appears to be more saturated with filler ingredients and petroleum products.

The product contains hydrogenated vegetable oil as one of the key moisturizing agents, parabens, paraffin and petrolatum. Parabens may have a carcinogenic effect (they’ve been linked to breast cancer), while petroleum products like paraffin and petrolatum may also pose a threat to human health.

While these ingredients are widely used in many skincare products, it’s worth pointing out that the under eye area is highly absorbent—meaning unsavory ingredients applied to this region may get into the blood stream.

This product may have some potential, but the fact that contains more inactive ingredients than active ones cheapens the product to some extent.

The Price and Quality of Skinceuticals Eye Balm

Skinceuticals Eye Balm is sold for $82 on the official website. This amount gets you a 0.5 oz. jar of the product. Skinceuticals products are available through a number of third-party channels.

Shopping through Amazon, for example will shave a few dollars off your order, as it is currently being offered for $81.96. Unfortunately, this item is not Prime-eligible.

This product is also sold through a number of smaller third-party channels, typically for about $82 a pop. We’re not sure we can justify spending $80-90 on Skinceuticals Eye Balm. We just weren’t all that impressed with the formula.

Business of Skinceuticals Eye Balm

Skinceuticals Eye Balm was created by the company, Skinceuticals. Here is their contact information, as well as some information about their philosophy and business practices:

Skinceuticals is a relatively well-known skin care company that has been in business for over two decades. The company was founded in an effort to provide consumers with a line of products inspired by where science meets nature—taking advantage plant-based extracts, as well as the latest innovations in dermatological science.

Browsing through the Skinceuticals site, we’ve found the e-commerce platform is easy to navigate and fairly minimal in appearance. Shoppers are sure to appreciate demonstration videos for the products, as well as the simple explanations on the science behind their solutions.

It’s also worth pointing out that Skinceuticals Eye Balm contains things like parabens and petroleum products. While the link to cancer requires further research, their presence doesn’t fall in line with the natural image this company has attempted to convey.

Skinceuticals makes a point to go into detail about the causes of wrinkles, loss of elasticity and the like, which we appreciate.

After our look through the Skinceuticals site, we’ve found that this company seems trustworthy and reasonably transparent. The product line is dermatologist-recommended and we’ve seen many reviewers have tried this, and other Skinceuticals products after a recommendation from a skin care professional.

Customer Opinions of Skinceuticals Eye Balm

Skinceuticals Eye Balm has reviews suggesting this product doesn’t quite live up to the claims listed on the website. Most people felt that the product did a decent job providing moisture to the eye area, but failed to have an effect on wrinkles and fine lines.

Additionally, the price point seems a little out of bounds, considering the contents of the formula.

Here are some of the comments we found posted online, detailing previous users’ experiences:

“The cream seemed fine when I bought it, but it seemed really liquid-y when I went to apply this to my face. I have yet to see any results from using this product. Seems pretty low quality for the price.”

“This eye balm really irritates my skin. It’s not very hydrating and seems to just make my eyes burn. I definitely wouldn’t recommend trying this product. It’s $82—the price point makes zero sense.”

“I like the way this product feels; it doesn’t irritate my skin or cause any problems otherwise. I also like that it makes my concealer go on smoothly. I have yet to see any changes in my wrinkle situation, though.”

“Really don’t understand what the fuss is about Skinceuticals. The product is okay, but not worth the price. My derm recommended this one, but I’ve yet to see any reduction in crow’s feet, wrinkles and bags.”

Based on the reviews we read—and there is a large pool of comments to draw from—there’s little evidence that this product is an effective tool.

The comments we read confirmed what we suspected—that the product is overpriced when you consider the ingredient list. The eye balm is loaded with fillers and has few active ingredients.

For whatever reason, many people have mentioned they were recommended this product by a dermatologist, but few people saw any changes with use.

Conclusion – Does Skinceuticals Eye Balm Work?

Skinceuticals Eye Balm does not have a great formula, and the reviews suggested a sense of disappointment after extended periods of use. For these reasons, we wouldn’t recommend using this particular eye cream if you’re serious about treating and preventing the more obvious signs of aging.

The formula does contain some nice ingredients, and likely provides soothing benefits to people who have very dry skin. However, as far as anti-aging is concerned, we saw little evidence that this product did much at all.

As an eye balm, rather than a cream or serum, we didn’t quite know if this product was meant for periodic healing, or to replace a typical lightweight eye cream.

Skinceuticals Eye Balm is clearly made by a trustworthy company users are bound to feel comfortable buying from. Between the videos, the digestible science facts on aging and skin care, as well as the many users’ reviews, Skinceuticals is doing a lot right.

What we didn’t like about this product is, it’s presented almost as a natural product, yet contains a lot of filler ingredients we didn’t love. On top of that, many consumers were clearly disappointed by the results they saw after using as directed.

Kremovage is a potent eye cream, designed to bring key benefits to users seeking tighter skin and a more refreshed under eye appearance. Ingredients like green tea, aloe, ocean-based retinol and a blend of peptides give users the fresh faced look they’ve long been after.

Kremovage was made in a certified lab facility using a cruelty-free formulation. Consumers can rest assured knowing they’ll be getting a safe, yet potent product every time they place an order. For more on how to buy Kremovage, click the link here.
