Build Muscle and Indulge in Chocolate with Muscle Brownies

Lenny and Larry's Triple Chocolate Muscle Brownie

“Eat brownies, get muscles,” is the mantra of Lenny and Larry’s line of decadent chocolate treats.

Lenny & Larry’s is a California-based company intent on becoming the leader in the healthy snack foods market by creating great tasting, high quality, all-natural products with added health benefits that make you happy when you eat them.

Recently, they sent DietsInReview.com a sample of their bestselling Muscle Brownies to test.

Each brownie contains a whopping 20 grams of protein. But before you go out and swap your grilled chicken breast for a protein-packed brownie, you may want to consider the calories and ingredients.

One Muscle Brownie contains 170 calories, per serving. There are two servings per brownie, so each brownie contains 340 calories. Not bad if you’re substituting the brownie for lunch, but as an afternoon snack or pre-workout nosh, you may want to eat half or even just a few bites. They also contain 24 grams of sugar, 12 grams of fat and 2 grams of fiber per brownie.

The Muscle Brownie’s main ingredients are a protein blend of whey concentrate, soy, and wheat isolates. Brown sugar, non-hydrogenating margarine, natural butter flavor, corn syrup, eggs, cocoa, and chocolate comprise a good portion of the remaining ingredients.

Muscle Brownies come in Triple Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Cookies and Cream flavors. And while they don’t taste exactly like a bakery-bought or homemade brownie, they are dense, rich and chocolatey.

Lenny and Larry’s also makes Complete Cookies, which are vegan and kosher. I also had a chance to sample a chocolate chip cookie and it was pretty awesome. Moist, chocolatey and chewy. But it’s not diet food.

Although the Complete Cookies do contain 15 grams of protein and five grams of fiber, one cookie, which is very large, totaled about 400 calories, and it didn’t contain any super-healthy ingredients. It was after all, a chocolate chip cookie, and a good one too. Not to say that healthy cookies aren’t good, because many of them are.

The Complete Cookies come in Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Lemon Poppy, and Oatmeal Raisin Flavors. Lenny and Larry’s also makes a Muscle Muffin, which I did not try.

You can purchase Lenny and Larry’s decadent muscle-boosting treats online or at grocery and convenience stores all over the country. They run $2 to $3 per product.

While Lenny and Larry’s provided Heather Ashare with sample product, this review is her own opinion and was not influenced or sponsored in any way.
