Pretty is as pretty does. And while it might seem like it’s clothes and cosmetics that make the woman, the reality is all-natural beauty boosters are actually found in the place you’d least expect it. We’re talking about your food.
Shiny hair, glowing skin and bright eyes are all the by-products of healthy habits like proper diet and physical activity.
While the right wardrobe and makeup can go a long way in making you look attractive and feel confident, there are natural beauty boosters that can do the same and have a positive impact on your health, too.
When it comes to reviving your appearance, it’s “super foods” to the rescue. You may be a skeptic, but many fruits and vegetables actually contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can work from the inside out to enhance your beauty. Consider them a food fountain of youth.
Below you’ll find a few tips about natural beauty boosters that can be found in common foods:
Load Up On Antioxidants: Foods high in antioxidants and vitamins can help slow the aging process by protecting the body against free radicals. Antioxidant rich foods include broccoli, tomatoes, garlic, red grapes, berries, spinach and tea.
Get Your Daily Dose of Vitamins and Minerals: For great hair, eat foods that have Omega 3s, vitamin B12 and plenty of protein. Try eggs, olive oil, nuts and fish. (more…)
Domonique Ramirez, the 17-year-old beauty queen Domonique Ramirez from Bexar County, Texas, is suing Miss Bexar County pageant officials for revoking her crown for gaining too much weight.
The organization claims that it wasn’t her weight that cost her the crown, but Ramirez “didn’t take her responsibilities seriously,” and would arrive to events late, “with no makeup, a dirty sash and a broken crown.”
Ramirez claims this isn’t true, and pageant officials stripped her of her crown for gaining weight. The pageant board’s spokeswoman, Linda Woods, admitted to telling Ramirez to “get off the tacos, get off the chips and the soda,” but Ramirez claims that Woods told her she was “just way too big,” and that “this is not going to work” during a photo shoot.
Tune in this Thursday, December 2 to the Dr. Oz Show to learn what foods will make you look beautiful on the inside and outside.
Dr. Oz will reveal what five super foods you need to eat for super beauty. You don’t need to look any further than the produce section of your grocery store or local farmer’s market to find natural ways to get rid of acne, erase wrinkles and undo sun damage. (more…)
If you like to cook and eat there is one more thing you can do with your favorite foods: put them on your body. Some of the ingredients in your favorite recipes might also be some of the ingredients in your favorite shampoos, soaps, lotions, body and facial products.
“Everything you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body,” said Ella Rich, owner of Ella Flor, a natural products and flower essence company. “Feed your skin well and you will look and feel better.”
A number of beauty products are made with extracts from avocado, honey and coconut. While you can mix your own potions and lotions at home, there are also some almost-edible treats for your hair, face and body that are perfect when you need a pick me up without the calories.
Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner
Former Miss USA, Tara Conner has spoken publicly about her drug addiction, which at its peak, meant popping upwards of 30 pills a day following her pageant crown.
Conner was awarded the title in 2006, but almost immediately reports began surfacing of her alleged drug and alcohol use. After testing positive for cocaine, Donald Trump, co-owner of the Miss USA organization, gave the beautiful but troubled young woman a second chance as long as she cleaned up her act in rehab. Without hesitation, Conner entered into a treatment facility and got sober.
While many people who use drugs to lose weight become underweight and malnourished because of the stimulatory and appetite-suppressing effects of the drugs, Conner has never commented on whether drugs had anything to do with her thin physique or whether diet supplements were part of her drug repertoire. But she does admit that after years of using drugs to find her identity, she was numb to food. (more…)
Nail salons are typically a place to relax and celebrate beauty, but for Michelle Fonville of Dekalb, Georgia, her services at Natural Nails on Covington Highway left her feeling humiliated and hurt.
Fonville said that on Monday, August 16, 2010 the salon manager, Kim Tran, gave her a bill for a manicure, pedicure and an eyebrow arch and it was then that she noticed she had been over charged by $5.
“I said, ‘I’ve been overcharged. She may have made an error,’” Fonville told WSBTV. “She broke it down, then told me she charged me $5 more because I was overweight.” Fonville was appalled and tried to reason with Tran.
“I said, Ma’am, you can’t charge me $5 more. That’s discrimination because of my weight,” said Fonville. (more…)
If you’re like me, you know enough about the importance of consuming disease-fighting antioxidants like colorful fruits, veggies, dark chocolate and green tea. But where you and I may falter is the day-to-day consistency of having breakfast of a yogurt with raspberries and blackberries rather than munching on that grab-n-go Starbucks apple fritter we hurriedly snag on our way to work.
So in order to offset those days when we just don’t quite fuel our bodies with enough free radical-fighting and antioxidant-rich foods there is Pure Inventions. Pure Inventions is kind of like giving your body that B12 shot it so desperately needs. (more…)
Gorgeously Green Diet author, Sophie Uliano
It is one thing to recycle your daily newspaper and bring your own tote bag to the grocery store but when it comes to making over your diet and lifestyle behaviors, each of us has our own comfort-level with what it means to be green. While many believe that going green means giving up everything from their favorite hamburgers
to swapping out their car for a bicycle, Sophie Uliano, the author of The Gorgeously Green Diet
as well as its predecessor, Gorgeously Green, shares with us simple steps that anyone can take to add more green living in their life.
We had the opportunity to speak with Sophie who believes that her plan which is more of a “live-it” lifestyle plan rather than a diet can be followed by anyone who is passionate about taking care of herself (and the planet).

First there was You: On a Diet and now there is You: Being Beautiful by the super-famous doctor team of Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen. The book is an owner’s manual to looking, feeling and being beautiful inside and out.
If you have never seen Dr. Oz in action, you must catch an episode of Oprah, where his charming demeanor, frank candor and encyclopedic medical brain tackles the common and not-so common health issues.
This latest book takes a tough look at what we believe beauty to be. It debunks some popular myths about beauty and calls into question many of the supposed beautifying lotions and potions that we have eaten up, slathered on our bodies or shelled over some serious cash for and instead points out why these products actually do more harm to our health than good.
