Biggest Losers Perform a Maori Haka War Chant
Sione, Filipe and Mike perform a war chant before the weigh-in.
Before the week 10 weigh-in, the Sione, Filipe and Mike of the black team performed a traditional Maori Haka dance and war chant. Inspiring their teammates? Defending against competitors? Either way, it was welcome entertainment by all.

Thats a maori Haka, i was just watching it on TV. Those boys could have at least aknowledge maori culture aswell. You can never take a haka and call it tongan.?

i'm sori but i gosta keep it real styles wit' yall... we Tongans is perpetratin' Maori's wit' that haka nonsense n it's goin' on everywhere no that foolz startin' to think it's a Tongan thang... it ain't in the Tongan history that we did the haka... but we did have war dances... so why can't we just stikk to our Tongan war dances n stop bitin' on New Zealand culture... what... we ain't got nuttin' as fierce as the haka or are we gon' start swingin' poi balls nex'??

Wow i dont know what to say, that haka had nothing to do with Tonga, the words are all maori and it is the EXACT haka performed by NZs sport team etc, i think it is cool it was on the biggest loser but there is a certain pride and history that goes with the haka (which is also why i hate seeing the haka being performed by kiwis just for the hell of it) i would like to know where they learnt it from tho, kinda weird..

-The guys know this is a New Zealand Maori haka. The language is not Tongan.

+Just thought id let ya all know that this is a MAORI HAKA. Maori are the indigenous people from New Zealand and the Haka is a war dance performed by our ancestors. Tongans, Samoans, Fijians and many other pacific island people have their own versions of war dance but this particular haka is from New Zealand.

+it doesn't matter if it is a tongan or non-tongan haka. all it matters is that they brought peoples attentions...atleast they had represented something if its' maouri, tongan, samoan or hawiian to me it's a POLYNESIAN dance because all of these cultures dances it.

A lot of people keep saying 'it's not Tongan'. I suppose I'm a stateside twit for trusting the two Tongan decended guys on the show as to what is Tongan? I'm guessing it was taught to them by another Tongan decended person who also was taught it was Tongan. Maybe they aren't the ones who need to check thier facts. If you care to look up Tongan rugby you'll see they do this haka.

Thank you all for the feedback re: the video. We just received clarification via Sione that this is indeed a "Maori Haka" dance, and not a Tongan. We appreciate all of you calling this to our attention.

+being from new zealand and part maori myself, i didnt think it was too bad. they got the words mostly right, and the actions arent really set in stone, they can change according to the performers preference.i wish they gave credit where it's due though, cause really it's insulting to both tongan and maori to get it wrong when a simple wikipedia search can get the right result
