Meditation

Yoga Dictionary

Meditation is a semi-awake state that involves invoking a calm internal state of mind. There are numerous kinds of meditation practices. Some meditation practices use a mantra or repeated saying as a way to focus and calm the mind, others use prayer beads while others rely on following the pattern of the breath. Most meditation forms involve sitting in a comfortable position and in a quite location, having an open attitude about the meditative practice and focusing the attention on an object, mantra or sensation.

Recently, meditation has been studied in the clinical setting to measure its beneficial effects on stress, mood, creativity and cognition.
