Aluminum is a highly reactive metal, so to keep the contents of aluminum cans free of metal-related contamination, manufacturers use line the cans with an epoxy. Sound safe? Not quite. The coating contains bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that has been linked to many different diseases and health problems. Researchers at the University of Cincinnati linked BPA to obesity and diabetes. A study conducted at the Yale School of Medicine found that BPA affects brain function in monkeys.
