You should eat a cup serving of dairy with every meal of the day, for three servings a day total. This applies generally applies to adult men and women regardless of age or gender. Unless you are trying to gain weight, it is recommended that American adults drink fat-free of 1 percent milk.

A one-cup serving of dairy is equivalent to one cup of milk or soy milk, a half cup of evaporated milk, a small container (eight ounces) of yogurt, a half cup of ricotta cheese, two ounces of American cheese or one and a half cups of hard cheese. Milk-based desserts can also be a serving of dairy, such as a cup and a half of ice cream of one cup of pudding made with milk.
