The safety of hCG is still being debated, although it does appear to have serious side effects. We know for a fact that consuming less than 1200 calories a day can have serious side effects, so that portion of the diet alone is dangerous.

TYM

HCG proponents swear vehemently that the low dosage of HCG from a compounding pharmacy does not incur the side effects that can arise from those using HCG for hormonal/gonadal dysfunction(s). HCG has a half-life of 23 days. There are no studies showing the blood levels of HCG during the diet, compared to those who are taking the medication for approved reasons. I have seen greater than 50% of people on the "HCG Diets" complain of constant hunger, constipation, and dizziness. Any VLCD should be pre-approved by the patient's cardiologist and other providers before they purchase it from a non-medical person.
