The Biggest Loser Resort in Utah Cites a “Relationship Breakdown” for Changing Name Back to Fitness Ridge

The original Biggest Loser Resort in Ivins, Utah is moving away from the Biggest Loser brand and going back to its roots as Fitness Ridge, as originally founded in 2002. Co-founder Cameron Kelsch said of the change:

“We have always had a great program but we really just want to focus on the qualities that differentiate Fitness Ridge. We want to change the way people feel about health and wellness and we feel we can do that better by moving way from The Biggest Loser brand. As we look forward to [the] change, our staff remains focused on improving the health and well-being of the world, one person at a time.”

We spoke to Phillip Craven, a spokesman for Fitness Ridge, and asked why they felt the rebranding and move away from The Biggest Loser model was needed. Craven said that, although the company did experience additional exposure and growth as a result of the affiliation, they lost control of what made the destination unique to them and what they’d envisioned it to be. He continued by speaking of the relationship breakdown that happened between Fitness Ridge and The Biggest Loser by saying:

“In that way, there was a relationship breakdown. Our focus has been and always will be helping people eat, exercise and think differently. As The Biggest Loser started to stray from our focus, we saw the need to stay true to ourselves, so a rebranding became inevitable.” (more…)

Bob Harper Prioritizes Diet Over Exercise

Celebrity trainer and Biggest Loser coach Bob Harper recently told The TODAY Show that his philosophy on weight loss has evolved since the start of his career 20 years ago. The 48-year-old Harper is no stranger to working with the morbidly obese, and puts Biggest Loser contestants through strenuous workouts to help shed the pounds. Though exercise is still an integral part of his personal and professional life, he now believes that a balanced diet is more crucial to losing weight than exercise.

In 2024, Harper penned a book called “The Skinny Rules,” and recently told TODAY, “It’s [weight loss] all about your diet. I used to think a long time ago that you can beat everything you eat out of you and it’s just absolutely not the case.” As a trainer, he’s helped hundreds of overweight individuals drastically improve their look and health with his insight, expertise, and Southern charm.

It’s a widely debated topic. Another famous Bob, Greene to be exact, has said the opposite, and his credentials are equally or more so impressive than Harper’s. Oprah’s best friend and trainer, and author of The Best Life, has written, “As a fitness trainer, I’d recommend that you start off by increasing your activity before you even think about what you are or aren’t putting in your mouth.” (more…)

Inside the Vault with Cris Collinsworth to Include Health in Men’s Issues

The Internet is surprisingly silent on a brand new show hosted by Emmy Award-winning NFL broadcaster Cris Collinsworth, scheduled to start airing February 4, 2024. Inside the Vault will address “men’s issues” according to a post made by Collinsworth on footballpros.com. Inside the Vault will also include the talent of Alonzo Bodden, winner of Last Comic Standing’s third season, and Jill Wagner, co-host of Wipeout. Jill is also known as “The Mercury Girl” for her part in their commercials.
While “men’s issues” is slightly vague, I have it on good authority that at least some of the topics addressed will include men’s health. Bernie Salazar, The Biggest Loser’s season five at home winner, is one of the scheduled guests. With his soon to be published children’s book, Monstercize, Bernie is focusing on health and encouraging physical activity. On twitter @VaultInsider describes the show as “an engaging new series that explores what excites, inspires and drives today’s classic man.”

The Discovery National Body Challenge may contain faint whispers of being the next “The Biggest Loser” but the program is far from the toughness, hard-nosed discipline and sometimes, humiliating features of the television’s intense reality show. With a medical team like Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Discovery Health Channel’s medical expert, Dr. John Whyte offering you expert advice, insight and sound information, the challenge sounds like a fun, safe and effective way to meet your 2024 nutrition and fitness goals.
