Why We Are Drawn To And Repelled By Celebrity Weight Loss Stories

As we hurtle toward 2024, you may be feeling inspired and resolute to make this new year a new chance to create the life that you have always wanted or to improve on the life in which you already find so much joy. As we turn the calendar to an entirely new year, it seems easier to find hope and believe in possibilities. Unfortunately, experience has shown us how powerful habits can be, and despite our purest resolutions, most of the time our goals lose momentum before January ends. It is important to find the accountability or inspiration that can keep you on track to achieve whatever goals you have resolved to obtain in 2024.

Some find celebrity weight loss stories to inspire them to begin or stick with their own weight loss journeys. A 15-year old boy from Mississippi named Kris was inspired to drop his weight by Patrick House, winner of Season 10’s Biggest Loser. As reality television stars, those like Patrick may be more capable of inspiring us because it is easier for us to relate to them than it might be to relate to other successful celebrities. If we are able to identify with someone who has faced a similar challenge, we believe that we can experience similar results.

Writer Chamein Canton explains that her 60 pound weight loss “wasn’t inspired by Jennifer Hudson, Kirstie Alley, Valerie Bertinelli, Marie Osmond or anyone else. They were more frustrating to me than anything else because they could afford to take care of themselves with nutritionists, personal chefs, personal trainers and all of the other accoutrements that come with celebrity.” Chamein did not identify with the emotional struggles of temptation and habit change of these famous women because she saw the resources at their disposal. Despite these resources, we have watched celebs like Kirstie Alley and Oprah yo-yo gaining and losing weight over and over just like so many others who struggle with weight. This can be another aspect that helps us identify with a particular celebrity and his or her weight loss journey.

It’s the Last Week on the Ranch in the Biggest Loser Recap: Season 11 Episode 20

This is probably the most unlikely final four anyone could have imagined would be standing when the dust settled from the last elimination. It’s official. Hannah, Olivia, Irene, and Jay. This week there are no more eliminations, but there is another weigh in. In lieu of running the famous marathon this year, they stay on the ranch for another week and weigh in one more time to face the yellow line and leave it up to America to decide who will be the three to vie for the big prize.

One of the things I was really big on, and still am, is nutrition. This week’s pop challenge is to cook the best turkey burger possible (but can they top MY turkey burger recipe?). The winner gets $5,000 and a two-week stay at The Biggest Loser Resort for a person of their choice. The judges for this have the most discerning of palates: A bunch of children! Olivia’s green slime burger didn’t seem to win over many kids and neither did Irene’s burger. Jay’s volcano burger and Hannah’s burger as well seemed to be the overall favorites with Jay barely squeaking it out for the win. (more…)

Cybex Introduces the Biggest Loser Arc Trainer for Your Home Gym

Visit our Facebook page to win the Biggest Loser Arc Trainer!

There are a number of tools to help you live the Biggest Loser lifestyle at home. The brand has extended itself to books, DVDs, frozen food and a meal delivery service, kitchen appliances, and more. Less than 200 people have ever been able to set foot on the coveted ranch and train in the country’s most famous gym, but that doesn’t mean the millions of other people watching from home can’t train the way they do.

In April 2024, Cybex and Biggest Loser will unveil the first-ever piece of Biggest Loser-branded fitness equipment. The Biggest Loser Arc Trainer is a first-of-its-kind piece of aerobic equipment made for residential use and mirrors the Cybex Arc Trainer used on the ranch. Condense your home gym into one piece of equipment, as the Biggest Loser Arc Trainer combines all the benefits of a ski machine, stepper and elliptical trainer for an all-in-one aerobic workout with a serious calorie burning affect. In fact, according to university research, the Biggest Loser Arc Trainer burns 16 percent more calories than an elliptical. As crunched as we all are for time, who doesn’t want to get more out of their standard workout? (more…)

Meet the Biggest Loser 10 Contestants

We’re just a few short weeks away from there premiere of Biggest Loser, beginning its 10th season September 21, 2024 on NBC. Already casting for season 11, it’s proof that this show is in the right place and right time as more and more Americans work to overcome the obesity epidemic that is plaguing young, old and everyone in between.

Each season the inspirational show, hosted once again by Alison Sweeney, takes overweight men and women and isolates them at the infamous Biggest Loser Ranch, located outside of Los Angeles, California. For several months (varying each season) contestants work side-by-side with esteemed trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper to lose weight, re-learn how to eat, and overcome the personal, emotional issues that have precluded them from living a healthy life before now.

While the Couples or Families versions of the show have become quite popular, pitting teams of two family members or friends against one another, season 10 goes back to the show’s roots with individuals competing against individuals.

For season 10, Biggest Loser is introducing the “pay it forward” theme – working to help these competing individuals as well as the communities from which they call home. The premiere episode shows trainers Bob and Jillian in seven hometowns for city-wide workouts. Amongst the crowd are three people vying for spots on the show, the two who finish the challenges first will become contestants.

Without further adieu, meet the 21-person line-up for season 10. Click in to each to see their complete bios. (more…)
