Why the Master Cleanse is a Horrible Idea

By Dan Kamys for FitandFabLiving.com

Recently, a diet known as the Master Cleanse has been coming into the spotlight. Celebrities such as Beyoncé have been known to practice this in order to supposedly cleanse their bodies. We think this is not only one of the worst weight-loss ideas ever, it’s downright dangerous. Keep reading to find out why.

The Master Cleanse is actually quite simple in practice. In place of solid food and other drinks, the “cleanser” mixes lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water and drinks that six or more times per day for anywhere between four and fourteen days. They then slowly ease themselves into solid food and off of the cleanse.

While the dieter will most certainly lose weight by only following a liquid diet, there are many risks with such a choice. First and foremost, they will not be getting nearly enough calories while on the fast. In order to lose weight, you have to cut calories, but such an intense decrease in calories is dangerous. As a result, most of the weight lost is actually muscle and water weight rather than fat. (more…)

Liquid-Only Diet Prepares Supermodel Adriana Lima for Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

How do supermodels prepare for a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, especially if they’ve just had a baby eight weeks ago? For Adriana Lima, the answer is to turn to a completely liquid diet for a solid week and a half and work out twice a day.

The mother of Valentina, 3, and Sienna, born in September, earned $7 million in 2024, giving her ranking on Forbes’ annual Celebrity 100 list. Her biggest earnings come from being a Victoria’s Secret Angel, but she appears in a diverse listing of modeling ads, television commercials, and acting spots. She likens her career’s required runway preparations to athletes training for a marathon.

Lima, 31, shared her training regimen with The Telegraph UK before last year’s show. She said she works out daily with a personal trainer, then twice a day for the three weeks leading up to the show. Lima does a variety of exercises like boxing, lifting weights, and jump rope she described as “really intense.”

After the birth of her first child, Lima said “it was easy” to lose her baby weight by hitting the gym once or twice daily for one to two hours, along with a portion-controlled diet of four ounce meals.  (more…)

Jets’ Coach Rex Ryan Weight Loss Inspiration to His Players

As we reported last year, Jets’ coach Rex Ryan is dealing with weight loss in his own way. Last year, he reportedly tried a liquid diet to cut weight from his substantial 350 pound frame. He did not find success in this effort and turned to a lap band surgery during the off season this past spring.

Recently, his team has been surprised to see him power walking on the treadmill as early as 7 a.m. Many of the Jets players like to complete their workouts early, but they have been shocked at the effort that Ryan has exerted in the early morning hours. “He was really going by the time we got in there,” Jets’ center Nick Mangold said recently. “So I don’t know what time he got in there, but he was going on that treadmill.” (more…)

It used to be that celebrity women were known for the diets they followed. However, with the recent likes of Rush Limbaugh and his success with Quick Weight Loss Centers, NFL’s Mike Golic on NutriSystem, and now New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan on a quest to lose some of the 340 pounds he has been carrying around, diets for men are becoming more interesting.

Since the NFL is known for its large players – the average NFL player weighs 245 pounds, 25 pounds heavier than their average weight in 1970 – it is no wonder that their coaches’ size is no different. (more…)
