The Body, Diet, and Feud Fueling the Katy Perry Half-time Show

katy-perry-college-gameday

Some of us are excited for the Seahawks to play the Patriots, some of us are excited for the commercials, and some of us are just excited for a free Katy Perry concert! That’s right, Miss California Gurl is performing the half-time show this year, and much anticipation surrounds this headliner. There have been lots of rumors surrounding Perry lately, and here we discuss what we might expect to see at the show — and of course, how she has kept in shape for the big game.

Perry’s half-time body

Perry has tweeted quite a few hilarious pictures of herself lately, though none accurately depict her true form. She and footballer J.J. Watt graced the cover of ESPN Magazine. Perry is looking stunning for her big gig, and it has been reported that she has been on the 5-Factor Diet to stay in top-notch shape for the big game. The 5-Factor Diet is a lifestyle that focuses on small meals and all of the food groups. Seems like Perry has been munching on a classic diet of veggies, whole-grains, and protein, as well as 25 minutes of exercise a day. Perry looks perfect and we are sure her performance will blow us all away.

Hey Katy and Kelly – Don’t Eat Mushrooms for Your Diet, Make Mushrooms Part of Your Diet

Mushrooms are absolutely a part of a healthy diet, but they shouldn’t be the focus of a diet. Any time a diet singles out one food to eat exclusively, or vice versa wants you to entirely eliminate one food or group, it’s a red flag for another fad. And like most diet fads, this one is making the rounds in Hollywood.

Apparently the always fit and fab Katy Perry and hotter than ever Kelly Osbourne are munching on mushrooms to keep those figures red carpet ready. Experts say their new adoption of The M Plan, or Magic Mushroom Diet, isn’t doing anyone any real favors.

More red flags pop up when you hear that this new mushroom diet will help you lose weight from your biggest problem areas in just 14 days! Now, if it took 14 days for your thighs and midsection to become problem areas, then bite this bait. We’re certain it took longer than that to gain it and we know for sure it will take longer than two weeks to make it right again.

This mushroom diet supposedly works by replacing lunch or dinner with a mushroom-rich entree.

Wait, that’s it? (more…)

20 Celebrity Men and Women Who Practice Meditation in Hollywood

When we think of alone time, we often picture ourselves shopping without chasing children, having a quiet pedicure, or simply lying in the bathtub uninterrupted. For some truly quality alone time, you don’t have to go much further than inside your own mind. Meditation is a contemplative state where by you silently remove yourself from the physical and the present to reflect, increase clarity, and find a more serene or deeper state of consciousness.

It’s an ancient practice, often associated with yoga, that’s becoming increasingly popular in our scattered, harried, pressure-cooked society. Business professionals use it to decompress after a tough meeting or even find their center before heading in to the bull pen. Men and women alike use meditation to strengthen their minds, reduce stress, and even attain that “me time” that is so necessary.

It’s something Julia Roberts’ character in Eat Pray Love grappled with during the pray portion of her journey at an Indian ashram. But in real life, celebrities are embracing it seemingly with ease for a vast many reasons.

For instance, Richard Gere says a meditation practice helps him to stay grounded amongst the excess of Hollywood life. Eva Mendes credits meditation for helping her mine her best creativity, according to Well and Good. And Gisele Bundchen, who delivered her second child at home this month, has called meditation the source for her post-baby weight loss.

“A regular meditation practice creates mindfulness. Being mindful helps keep us from feeling distracted and impatient with life when things don’t go our way,” said Jill Lawson, our resident yogi expert. “When we are fully aware of our feelings through the practice of meditation, we can move toward being more proactive, instead of reactive. Taking action versus being frustrated is the first step in living a joyful life.”

We found 20 famous men and women who have dedicated themselves to the art and practice of meditation. If this group can make Power Bracelets, veganism, and the Master Cleanse a storming success, maybe they can serve as models to make us all a bit more mindful out here in the real world. (more…)

Gym Playlist of the Week: 2024 Grammy Award Winners

Last night, music’s biggest stars walked the red carpet and filled the hall for the 54th Grammy Awards. It was a night full of big names, questionable wardrobes, and memorable performances.

Hands down the night belonged to Adele. The 23-year old singer took home an award for all six categories she was nominated for. She has now tied Beyonce for the most awards won by a female artist in one night. In addition to winning six Grammys, Adele gave a stunning performance of “Rolling In The Deep.” This was her first public performance since her risky vocal chord surgery a few months ago. According to critics and the overflow from social media, Adele and her simple gown and simple stage set-up trumped all the light shows and dance routines of the night.

The show was heavy on performances last night, twice as many performances as awards. Among the performers were Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, Glen Campbell, Bruno Mars, Foo Fighters, Katy Perry, Chris Brown, and Nicki Minaj. Some gave great performances, some gave OK performances, and many are still trying to figure out how to label Nicki Minaj’s odd on-stage exorcism.
