Chelsie Hightower Offers Healthy Holiday Tips and DWTS Workout DVDs

Dancers are notorious for having some of the best bodies in the world. Hours upon hours of cardio can have that effect! Dancing With the Stars pros Chelsie Hightower, Edita Sliwinska and Kym Johnson came together to create two DVDs just in time for the holiday exercise wall that we all run into.

Fat Burning Cardio Dance and Ballroom Buns and Abs are available now. I haven’t tried either of them yet, but I must say that I’m a big fan of dancing to stay fit! Not only does it provide much needed cardio, but it greatly improves the muscle tone, balance and confidence of the individual practicing.

While filming the DVDs, Hightower says that she was “huffing and puffing the whole time” because of the intense drop in activity she experiences in between seasons for Dancing With the Stars. Hightower also told People Magazine her three favorite healthy holiday tips. Besides dancing your butt off any chance you get, Hightower advises:

Kelly Osbourne Flaunts Bikini Body on the Cover of Shape Magazine

Image via Shape.com

From drugs to food, Kelly Osbourne has played out some very serious health battles in the limelight of the paparazzi and gossip magazines. She once made the very true, yet unfortunate statement that her battle with her weight made more headlines than her near-death battle with drugs.

So it should come as no surprise that as the former contestant of Dancing with the Stars, graces the cover of this month’s Shape magazine in her size-2 bikini-clad body, gossip websites and celebrity blogs are on fire with just how amazing this pint-sized young starlet looks. (more…)

DWTS’s Margaret Cho Shares Her Struggle With Emotional Eating

Margaret Cho recounted her experience on Dancing With the Stars in a recent blog post. She wrote about body image and how it affected her dancing. Margaret “felt clumsy and awkward among the svelte, swanlike figures of Jennifer and Brandi and Audrina.”

She reports that practicing was much less nerve racking than the weekly competition. During practice, she was able to focus on her body a bit more and was able to achieve true beauty in her dance. She did get distracted by constantly seeing herself in the mirror, something she’s not entirely comfortable with or used to but she was able to dance past it. (more…)

Dancing With the Stars Brings Major Changes for Contestants

Dancing With the Stars Season 11 premiered on Monday, September 20th, 2024. If you still don’t know, the contestant lineup is as follows:

  • Bristol Palin
  • Audrina Patridge
  • Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
  • Michael Bolton
  • Kurt Warner
  • Kyle Massey
  • Rick Fox
  • Brandy
  • Jennifer Grey
  • Margaret Cho
  • Florence Henderson
  • David Hasselhoff (eliminated first)

The talent and dedication on Dancing With the Stars amazes me. Most contestants have to make major lifestyle changes in order to get into shape and build their talent for the show. Audrina Patridge recently spoke about her journey to do just that.

The Hills star has reportedly switched to a higher carb, high protein diet and eats approximately every two hours. It’s true that an abundance of carbohydrates are typically frowned upon in the diet community. The exception to this comes when you’re working your body as hard as she is! Athletes often stock up on carbs in order to fuel their bodies with what they need. She’s nearly given up alcohol (although she still enjoys the occasional glass of wine) and has substantially increased her water intake. These new habits have, no doubt, taken a hit on her social life. She tells OK! Magazine, “I’m focused on dancing, and that’s it.” (more…)

Dancing With The Stars’ Jake Pavelka Loses 10 Pounds and Has 3,800 Calorie Diet

I attended “Dancing With The Stars” this week to cheer on a good friend of mine, Jake Pavelka. Jake and I were on the same “Bachelorette” show together and became pretty good friends from that experience. He was then asked to be the next “Bachelor” and he blew up from there. I got to chat with Jake for a few minutes after the show and asked how he and Vienna were doing. He replied, “My girlfriend and I; I mean my fiance and I, are great!!” I couldn’t help but chuckle as he is still getting used to the whole situation.

During the last bit of our conversation I asked him how the intensity was during practice and rehearsal. He replied, “Man, it’s tough. I have lost ten pounds thus far while eating a 3,800 calorie diet.” (more…)

Zumba: Add Some Spice to Your Fitness with a New Workout Craze

Exercise should be fun. There’s no reason to dread something that’s so important for your health. You can go do your treadmill exercise tonight, or you can try to shake it up a little.

One of the hottest trends in aerobics these days is a hot little South American-influenced workout called Zumba.

zumbaZumba’s founder, Alberto Perez, considers himself the Forrest Gump of dance. It’s a nice bit of humility, but he must be doing something right. Nearly four million copies of Zumba workout DVDs have been sold, and about 20,000 instructors in 40 countries now teach Zumba, 15,000 of which are in the U.S.

But in a Gump sort of way, the 37-year-old kind of stumbled upon the sensation he created.

In the mid-’90s, as he hurried to an aerobics class he was teaching, he realized he forgot his workout music. So he grabbed whatever he had in his car… which just happened to be the salsa and merengue music that became the inspiration for Zumba.

Actually, Zumba is more of a “gumbo” stew of music, all stirred together for a vigorous hour of fitness: mambo, cha-cha, cumbia, and merengue. Even hip-hop, or belly dancing can be a part of the Zumba experience.

Some industry people attribute Zumba’s popularity to recent reality show hits like Dancing With The Stars. Here’s a video that gives you a good idea of how much fun it could be:
