Biggest Loser’s Brett Hoebel Joins Food Network’s Fat Chef

If you’ve ever wondered how chefs manage to work around food all day and maintain a healthy weight, you’ll want to tune into the new Food Network series The Fat Chef, which premieres on Thursday, January 26 at 10pm ET/PT.  Though the media portrays images of slim chefs like Giada De Laurentiis and Sandra Lee, there are many who do not fit this stereotype but play a huge role in determining how and what people eat.

The six episode series will offer viewers a behind-the-scenes look the struggles chefs face when their love for food affects their health. Twelve overweight culinary professionals from Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Ohio will be featured over the course of their four-month venture to overcome weight issues with the help of therapists, nutritionists, and personal trainers.

Each episode will showcase two chefs working with their health consultants, including nutritionist and author Christine Avant, fitness guru Robert Brace, and former Biggest Loser trainer Brett Hoebel as they work to overcome their abusive relationships with food.

Muay Thai vs. Capoeira: Choose the Best Martial Art for You

Muay Thai

If you watched The Biggest Loser last season, you may have noticed that the emphasis in the gym was on martial arts. With trainer Cara Castronova‘s background as a 2 time Golden Gloves boxing champion and trainer Brett Hoebel‘s emphasis on Capoeira, as well as many past BL contestants who ha vediscovered a love of Muay Thai boxing, the exercise workouts were definitely not typical. What was the reason that these two completely different forms of martial arts were chosen?

At first glance, these two forms of martial arts have almost nothing in common. Muay Thai is an ancient form of combat fighting that utilizes all of the limbs, plus elbows and knees, in striking. Commonly called The Art of Eight Limbs, this stand up form of martial arts combines elements of boxing as well as stand up clinch techniques, as opposed to boxing which uses two (hands) and other forms of martial arts which utilize four (hands and feet).

Most competitive forms of marital arts place an emphasis on conditioning, and Muay Thai is no exception. Designed to help increase endurance for ring competition, most Muay Thai classes incorporate shadowboxing, jumping rope, running and often weight training. A cornerstone of Muay Thai training is working pad rounds, in which a student works one on one with a coach in hitting specially designed pads, called focus mitts. The focus mitts are created to absorb impact and help a fighter learn to hit correctly without harming their training partner.

Brett Hoebel Fired as Biggest Loser Trainer

It seems new Biggest Loser trainer Brett Hoebel was there on some sort of 14-week probationary period. In last night’s episode, week 14, Brett’s red team was down to one final player, Courtney Crozier. The two had the rare opportunity to train one-on-one all week, with the other members of the red team already eliminated. Courtney made it clear at the beginning of the week she was nervous, for herself and Brett; her concern was that if she didn’t pull a good number at the weigh-in that they’d both go home.

That’s exactly what happened.

In 11 seasons, there aren’t really too many surprises that catch the cast, contestants, and even viewers off guard any more. But when Courtney lost only one pound, immediately sending her home, Alison Sweeney turned her attention toward Brett. She announced in a somber tone that it was also his time to leave “with no one left for him to train.” (more…)

Biggest Loser Brings Bas Rutten and Mixed Martial Arts to the Fitness Forefront

Biggest Loser’s new trainers have introduced the masses to a new way to stay fit: fighting. New trainers Golden Gloves winner Cara Castronuova and Brett Hoebel have truly brought out the fight in each of their team members and it shows. While many thought that the only way to drop double digit numbers each week was with Bob and Jillian’s state of the art technologically advanced equipment inside the Biggest Loser gym, Cara and Brett have shown all you need to get a killer workout is a few ropes and a boxing gloves.

Fighting isn’t a new fitness fad, and you might catch a jab to the face for calling it so, but it is growing in popularity in the mainstream fitness community. Last night’s episode of Biggest Loser even featured Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA Gym, and for most, MMA is a term you aren’t familiar with- but should be.

The Diets Everyone is Talking about and Trying in 2024

If you’re resolving to lose weight, you’re probably researching the best diets and which is right for you. A quick way to determine that is to use our diet finder, which will match your budget, goals and lifestyle with the weight loss plan that best suits your needs.

Or, you can take a look at this list of must-watch diets for 2024. These are the ones you’ll no doubt hear your co-workers, aunts and best friends raving or complaining about in the new year. Some are a bit faddish and lend themselves to yo-yo dieting, others have solid foundations that set you up for success this year and for more to come.

The 17 Day Diet

This one broke out on the scene with the book’s release in November 2024 on Dr. Phil. Dr. Mike Moreno wrote the book to help people kick-start their weight loss, re-learn how to eat via meal plans and 17-minutes a day worth of exercise, and then give them the information they need for on-going maintenance. It’s a cycled way of eating that keeps the metabolism from getting bored and settling in to a status quo.

Weight Watchers PointsPlus

In November 2024, Weight Watchers unveiled the most significant change to its program in 13 years. Using the latest in nutritional science along with Weight Watchers’ nearly 50 years of expertise, the new approach allows for clients to make healthier, more satisfying choices. The new PointsPlus calculation includes protein, fiber, fat and carbs, instead of just fiber, fat and calories.

Jillian Michaels

The Biggest Loser trainer is on her way out of primetime, with season 11 being her last, but it is in no way her swan song. If anything, this is just her prelude. Men and women alike clamor to reap the benefits of her fitness empire that you’ll no doubt hear someone tell you that they’re using her fitness DVDs, using her online weight loss plan, or reading her books and cooking her recipes. Brett Hoebel Fired from Biggest Loser in Week 14

CONFIRMED! Brett Hoebel is the new trainer!

Could Brett Hoebel be the next trainer on The Biggest Loser?

Who is he? Brett Hoebel is a celebrity trainer with the looks and skills that we think make him a possible candidate to be the one of the mystery Biggest Loser trainers to appear on season 11. He recently discussed the strategies he used with Victoria’s Secret model Karolina Kurkova with bodybuilding.com. “It’s the cross-training that’s key. It doesn’t let your body adapt to one stimulus too much and it keeps your workouts exciting.”

You may recognize Brett from the Discovery Channel show Fit Family, or from one of his many other TV appearances like The View, Good Morning America and the Today Show. He’s also the creator of RevAbs, a workout and diet plan the promises to give you a toned body in as little as 90 days. These workouts combine elements of Afro-Brazilian Capoeira and Muay Thai kickboxing with Western strength training.
