Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum Ingredients and Side Effects

Ingredients:

Allantoin Camellia Sinenses Dimethicone
Panthenol Niacinamide Propylene Glycol

Allantoin: A chemical compound that is used to treat a number of skin ailments, such as roughness, itchiness, and diaper rash.

Allantoin appears in hundreds of products including toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo and lipstick. It is generally considered safe, however it is possible that some users will experience side effects including:

  • Burning
  • Stinging
  • Redness
  • Irritation
  • Soggy skin
  • Whitened skin
  • Dizziness
  • Trouble breathing

Camellia Sinenses: An extract from green tea leaves that is thought to be high in antioxidants, which fight the damage that is caused by free radicals.

In addition to being one of the most popular beverages in the world, green tea is also used in the treatment of a number of skin conditions. There is very little clinical data to support these applications, but it is possible that green tea can be therapeutic for:

  • Genital warts
  • Acne
  • Swelling
  • Sunburn

There are quite a few side effects that can be attributed to the ingestion of green tea, however there are no known negative consequences connected with its topical application.

Dimethicone: A moisturizing emollient that has been used to treat itchy skin, redness, dry skin, and several forms of skin irritation.

Dimethicone forms a protective layer over the skin that helps protect skin cells and traps in hydration. There is a small risk of allergic reaction to dimethicone, however it is safe for use by the vast majority of humans.

Panthenol: Another name for vitamin B5, also called pantothenic acid. B5 is important to the body for its ability to process carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins, and it is also key to the skin formulation process.

There is insufficient evidence to be able to say for sure if it is effective or not, however panthenol has been used at times in the treatment of:

  • ADHD
  • Constipation
  • Dry Eyes
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Infection
  • Irritability

Panthenol is safe for all humans and there are no known negative side effects associated with its consumption.

Niacinamide: A form of nitrogenated vitamin B3 found in yeast, milk, fish, and eggs. It is preferred by some to regular niacin because it is less associated with the flushing and redness that can sometime accompany niacin supplements.

B3 helps convert carbohydrates into glucose that can be burned for energy. It is also used by the body for skin, hair, and eye health, as well as liver and nervous cell functionality.

Niacinamide is generally safe for topical use, however it is possible that side effects of applying niacinamide to the skin could include:

  • Rash
  • Itchiness
  • Swelling
  • Thick tongue
  • Difficulty breathing

Propylene Glycol: A synthetic compound frequently found in health, beauty, cleaning, and food products.

When applied topically, propylene glycol acts as a humectant, meaning that it draw water into the cells that it affects, creating a temporary moisturizing effect. Humectants are popular in many skin care products because of this, as well as for the fact that they are also though to help with the rapid absorption of other ingredients.

There is a downside to many humectants, however, in that they can draw moisture from other cells in the body, not so much hydrating the skin as redistributing the skin’s hydration to its outer layer. This can endanger the skin’s core health, especially during colder months or in drier climates.

There are some side effects that can potentially stem from applying propylene glycol to the skin including:

  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling of the face
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath

Users should contact medical professionals immediately if it seems that their skin feels soggy or damp, turns white in patches, or develops any other unusual changes. These may be signs of a serious skin infection that can be related to propylene glycol and requires immediate care.

Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum Quality of Ingredients

According to our panel of beauty and wellness experts, Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum may have some uses as a beauty product, but it should not be used to try to improve skin health.

Most of the effects of the ingredients in Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum fall in to two categories. One category is ingredients that are cosmetic in nature, meaning that they may make the skin look better temporarily but don’t actually make it any healthier in the long run.

The other category is ingredients that have antioxidant powers that can fight the damage that negative chemicals in the body can cause, but do nothing to control their creation in the first place. This means that they are good at lessening the symptoms of skin damage, but not their causes.

Another concern that our panel had when reviewing the ingredients is that these are not the most mild products to be using on the skin. The chances of any given one of them provoking a negative reaction in a user is small, but when taken together the chances raise.

Most users will probably be able to apply Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum without incident, however anyone that has shown sensitivity to any of these ingredients is encouraged to seek other options.

After consulting with our panel of experts, the most definitive answer that they would give about Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum’s effectiveness was that it may work for some specific uses with some specific people, that it will not be effective for other individuals, and that some people may have highly negative reactions to it.

They claimed that it would be most effective for individuals looking for a short-term beauty aid that gives the appearance of hydration. It will not be an effective product for customers looking to actually increase hydration levels, heal damaged skin, or help with core-level wellness.

Customers with sensitive skin or that have had allergy issues in the past are encouraged to use caution with Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum and to test small amounts to ensure safety before applying freely to the facial area.

Amy says:

I’ve been using oil of olay for a good ten years now. The last bottle I purchased, total effects, was at the beginning of the winter. As I began to use it, I noticed the skin on my forehead and cheeks became blotchy, red, itchy, dry skin. I honestly thought the air in my home was so dry, because it always is this time of year, so I switched to coconut oil, and found the problem cleared right up.Two days ago, I used the oil of olay again, and almost immediately, my face flared up again. Yesterday, i switched back to the coconut oil, and had lunch with my aunt later in the day. She said to me, “it looks like you have rosea in your face”, so I explained to her what was happening. She asked me if I use oil of olay, and I said, yeah for like 10 years. She told me my other aunt used it for a long time as well, but recently it was causing the same issues for her. It all makes sense now!!!! Damn it!! I honestly did not think for one second oil of olay was the issue, but it totally is. I’m one sad girl!!!

Kelly Teel says:

Im having the same issues my face is swollen no hives but my neck is red swollen and has hives I hope thats what did it and if I dont use anymore I will be fine hopefully I am better by morning if not I will have to go to the ER I suppose im not sure how long I should wait to see if swelling redness and hives go away any suggestions?

Vivian says:

I got allergy when using this product. I’m not sure which ingredients in the formulae causes this to my skin.

Remember to do a patch test before using this product.

pamela brown says:

I just stated using this and found it very thick, and non absorbing. this may be a good thing in terms of skin hydration. Getting it too close to the eyes caused it to migrate and eyes stung. Solution: Don’t get it near the eyes. I’ve a history of acne and rosacea and dermatitis in past, none of which has resurfaced while using this.

Anonymous says:

Total Effects has caused my face to become incredibly itchy and my eyes are like conjunctivitis.

Fats says:
