Promise® SuperShots® to Cure Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure

UPDATE: This product is no longer available. Please see the Promise Web site for more details.

The brand Promise® has come up with the cure-all SuperShots® to cure cholesterol and high blood pressure.

First, I’ll discuss the blueberry flavored SuperShots® that “remove cholesterol” from your body.  These 100ml servings contain 70 calories, 3.5g fat, 0g sat. fat, 30mg sodium, and less than 1g fiber (1.5 WW Points).  They claim that this product contains “natural plant sterols, an ingredient clinically proven to help remove cholesterol from the body as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol.

So, let’s break this down… in my opinion, and there are studies to support this, a key component to lowering your cholesterol level is fiber and this product only contains less than 1 gram. It is promising, however, that these products do contain plant sterols, which have been shown to reduce cholesterol.

These SuperShots® products alone are not the miracle cure all for cholesterol; in fact, they even say that these products should be taken along with following a low saturated fat and cholesterol diet.  This type of diet is more of the cure for lowering cholesterol along with increasing your intake of fiber.  So, this product is a good healthy choice to make for a snack, but your emphasis should be on eating a low-fat, lower calorie, and low-cholesterol diet.

Second is the product Promise® has for lowering your blood pressure.  On their website, they claim that the “essential, heart healthy fruit blends provide a good source of potassium in a convenient 3 fl. oz. serving*. Potassium can help flush sodium from the body. Promise® SuperShots® can be used as part of a high potassium, low-sodium diet because diets containing foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

Let’s break this down… the single best way to reduce your blood pressure is watching and restricting your sodium/salt intake.  However, potassium has been shown to do great things for lower blood pressure, so in this sense, Promise® is correct.  The same goes for this product as the product above, yes these are a healthy choice, but don’t rely on them alone to remove cholesterol or eliminate your high blood pressure.  First, follow a low sodium diet, then incorporate this product as a snack.

The key to overcoming a disease, ideally, is by prevention.  Prevent these diseases from even happening. This can be done by following a healthy low-fat, low-cholesterol, moderate-low calorie diet.  Make sure you consume plenty of fruits and veggies, whole grains, and water… and of course, exercise!  These products above are OK to consume, but don’t expect them alone to make drastic changes in your body or for your health.

If you like the idea of the supershots, you might want to try the Kardea gourmet nutritional bar. 7g fiber, 7g protein, 1g plant sterols and only 150 calories. Delicious and very satiating. Low saturated fat and low salt. All four are vegetarian with no dairy ingredients(2 also are vegan). Email us if you are interested in obtaining samples.

my wife keeps sending me out to purchase your product but nobody stocks or let alone heard of your product. I am tired of running around trying to find it! Please advise where in the USA your product is sold.

erom rebif says:

Wal Mart Supercenters sell it.

I recently had a heart attack and my daughter, who lives in Salt Lake, recommend that I start using Promise for my high chlestorial. I’ve looked in a number of stores in Canada without any success, is it in fact available in Canada? If so where?

Ana Warnick says:

I buy SuperShots in Kroger supermarket stores; I’m not sure where to find this product in Canada, though. When I first heard of SuperShots, I asked my local Kroger and they had no idea what I was talking about. I took it upon myself to search and found the product by the yogurt section. It has worked for me.

Nancy Poteat says:

Please send me coupons for Supershot. It has been highly recommended to me by a friend

Marion C. says:

Everyone please listen….save your money…SuperShots does not work. I’ve used it for a year and after recent bloodwork was shocked to discover that my total Cholesterol was 285…higher than before.
If I had an egg, I would drink a SuperShot…If I had a hamburger, I would drink a SuperShot…you get the picture…it doesn’t work !!!

Phillip Stephenson says:

I went to Krogers today to look for it and could not find it. What grocery stores carry this product?

Stephen Koenig says:

This is a very interesting product. If nothing else it is the most powerful probiotic I have used in the last 38 years.

Daryl says:

Just my two cents. My cholesterol dropped 40 points on the Super Shots… And this after years of running(4 miles a day) and Olive Oil, daily doses of Niacin, etc… HC comes more from my hereditary background than my diet. There was nothing i could do to get it down.

I was even on a low-dose statin(Zetia) for over a year and it didn’t work.

After using the Supershot everyday for 8 months, for the first time EVER my cholesterol is under 200. Even my PC doctor was suprised.

I say give this product a try. But also watch what you eat. To the person who said they would have a shot after eating whole eggs, I don’t think you’re going about this the right way.

dh says:

I’ve just noticed the Promise Supershots container is labelled with a recycle number “7”. I’ve been checking the recycle number because I read that we should avoid number “7” plastics.

KLO in IN says:

I’ve used Supershots for 2 months now because statins cause me too much joint pain if I take them daily. Without the statin I dropped both my Total / LDL by 25 / 40 points. At $.75 ea they gave me as much cholesterol decrease as the daily dose of a Statin…
Now I’ve gone back on an every other day Statin dose and have no side effects. I’m looking forward to the results.
They’re lower cost at the big grocery chains-$7.40/8 pk.
By the way, you don’t eat a greasy burger and then drink a shot.
You drink the shot, eat a low calorie, healthy fat, veg/fruit laden diet and enjoy the results. Let’s be realistic about eating and cholesterol..

For the person concerned about the recycle 7 symbol it means the
mat’l can contain several polymers and is difficult to separate them
for recycyling. One of the questionable polymers is Polycarbonate and
is had some issues with the reuseable baby bottles due to a residual BPA leaching out.
The supershot bottle is a multilayer bottle with an inert plastic on the inner layer such as polyehtylene(Milk Bottle) or Polypropylene(Ice cream tubs & Kids toys).

Supershots that remove cholesterol works quite well. It may not bring cholesterol down as fast, but I was surprised that my total cholesterol was 288, 6 months again. Now it’s down to 254 and I will continue rather than taking dangerous statins and fibrates. I considered every part of my cholesterol with everything coming down except for the HDL that is up which is good. Don’t know if there is something in the supershots that affected my triglycerides, but they fell 154 points. Wow, I’m impressed with this product and I strongly recommend it. But, I also take multivitamins, Lecithin, Vit E and just started taking fish oils which apparently I didn’t need since my triglycerides had dropped this much. I drink one Supershots every morning just before I eat for the first time.

Here, Here to KLO-in-In….any signle nutrient — sterols or soluble fiber — cannot overcome poor diets, but taken with an overall cholesterol-loweirng , a 30%+ reduction in LDL cholesterol can be achieved–with upwards of 10-15% associated with sterols and another 5-8% associated with fiber. For some, this is sufficient to avoid cholesterol — for others, as noted, above, it allows for a reduction in medications. What also is clear is that each nutrient works very well on some; and not very well on others….so it is important to get your cholesterol tested periodically to see what is working for you.

Dan says:

I started using Promise Supershots last month. I drink one bottle per day with dinner. Here’s the history of my blood work before using Supershots.

Date Total Chol Trig HDL LDL Risk Ratio
1/2008 217 176 43 139 3.23
8/2008 218 134 42 149 3.55
10/2008 162 68 41 107 2.62
2/2009 202 149 37 135 3.65

There was improvement in 10/2008, but for the most part my levels have remained borderline. My next blood work is scheduled for June 2009. I’ll report back after I get the results to see if my levels have improved, and whether Supershots helped me. Note that this is not a controlled study, because I am using other cholesterol lowering supplements such as fish oil, niacin, and red yeast rice. However, I have been using those supplements since March 2008, so if my levels improve, one might infer that Supershots played a part. I have also changed my diet recently to avoid more saturated fat and I have been eating more fiber.

To the guy who ate a dozen eggs and then a bottle of Supershot and expected his cholesterol to go down. Uhm, maybe the chicken is smarter than you? lol

Every drink more than one per day?????

deb says:

I’ve used the shots for 1 yr. now, have reduced my count by 55 points. From a 252 down to 197. I take one a day, if I remember now, and eat very conservatively. I have also been buying the butter spread called Smart Balance to help lowering process along with low fat meals most of the time,, and do not give up all the fatty things I love, like chocolate, pies, and an occasional donut. Hopefully i will be even lower next checkup.

Gladys M. says:

I have lowered my cholesterol 53 points with the super shots. I am so happy I don’t have to go on the medicine!

Tammy says:

Can you take the one for High Blood Pressure along with the one for Cholesterol?

Anna says:

Too much salt isn’t the only culprit that cause high blood pressure. Hydrogenated oil is even worse than salt because not only does it cause high blood pressure, but diabetes, high cholesterol and a host of other problems.

You people that are complaining about Supershots not lowering your cholesterol. I have a couple of questions for you. Are you drinking your Supershots just before you eat your first meal of the day? Besides reducing salt, do you read the ingredients and check to see if there is hydrogenated oil of any kind, shortening and other words that can fool a person? Hydrogenated oil also cause LDL to go up and HDL to go down. There is several good websites on this poison. If we boycott these foods with these dangerous man-made transfats, maybe the food industry will change their way of doing things.

Anyhow, I’m impressed with Supershots, but I had to change my eating habits somewhat too.

dot beck says:

Have tried it and like, like, like it. Please send coupons.

Lynn says:

Has anyone else using the SuperShots gotten bad side effects from it? After one week I began having severe intestinal cramping, serious stomach bloating and headaches. Not sure I can remain on this product. Wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them too.

JILL MAKOWSKI says:

WE LOVE THEM, PLEASE SEND COUPONS, THANKS 🙂

Dettie says:

I have just recently “discovered” supershots and thought, why not? I have diabetes and high bad cholesterol leveles and am on medication for both – actually, the HC is worse because I take both zetia and crestor for it. I do bloodwork at an average of 2x a year and go see an endocronologist also 2x a year. I am just curious to see if this product works for me.

James says:

Total cholesterol was 267. Dr. gave me 3 months or he would start me on meds. I already take several meds and did not want to add more. SO, changed my diet. Ate less fat (cut way back on fattie meat), less sugar, NO junk or fast food, ate at least 1 cup oat BRAN a day or 3 oat bran muffins (home made), cooked with EVOO, added Benecol as a spread on bread, ate more veggies and fruit, ate/used only egg whites, and one supershot daily. Grilled a lot, roasted or steamed most veggies. After 3 months total cholesterol dropped to 184. I am disabled so could not exercise. Also lost pounds. Very happy camper. I believe the many changes I made resulted in the lower cholesterol. Dr. was very pleased. Will continue this life style forever.

James says:

UUUPS – Wife says to tell you she did most of the cooking….

Delores Lentino says:

I used supershots before they were discontinued, it lowered my cholesterol by quite a bit!

It did work with a healthy diet! Sorry they are discontinued!

Derrick says:

Promise yogurt was in the stores one day and then gone the next. I was introduced to it by another diabetic as i had given up on all the other brands. No matter what they said they did virtually nothing, whereas Promise actually worked and did what it said, I would travel anywhere to get hold of it. We figured medical companies paid Promise to stop production as it was crucifying the profits because Promise was so good, after a couple of months you could forget about medication. Obviously this would not be the same for everyone but it was the same for many.
