Penny’s Low-Fat Desserts Offer Sweet Relief

If you have a sweet tooth, we have a food find for you!

Penny’s Low-Fat Desserts are a new specialty line of muffins, cookies and muffin tops that are sure to fulfill your need for something sweet and carbo-licious.

The company was founded and created by Penny Pearl who has a degree in Consumer Services and Nutrition from Rutgers University. Penny is always on the search for tasty, low-fat, low-calorie treats, so she decided to put her nutrition expertise and culinary skills to use and thus created a complete line of desserts that are not just low in calories, but high in fiber, all-natural and made with zero trans-fats. Best of all, Penny’s Low-Fat Desserts come in individually-wrapped single servings, making portion control a cinch and a yummy portable snack just a grab away.

Penny’s Low-Fat Desserts is the first company to develop no-sugar-added desserts using stevia, an all-natural, zero-calorie sweetener. All of Penny’s Low-Fat Desserts are rich in whole grains and many are egg-free with no cholesterol. Two of the cookies are also dairy-free.

Here is a look at the entire line.

Cookies

Penny’s Low-Fat Cookies come in eight flavors: Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate with Peanut Butter, White Chocolate with Cranberry, Chocolate Truffle and Toffee Cinnamon. The Chocolate Truffle and Toffee Cinnamon do not contain any sugar.

Each cookie contains 140-150 calories, 1-3 grams of fat, 6-7 grams of fiber and 2-3 grams of protein. Each cookie is generously-sized and is moist, chewy and sweet, but not unnaturally sweet like many low-fat products. Penny’s Cookies have natural sweeteners like plum puree, dried apples, and cranberries to add a healthy sweet taste to them.

Muffins and Muffin Tops

Penny’s line of Low-Fat Muffins come in seven different flavors. You can get each as either a muffin or muffin top. Flavors include Almond Poppy Seed, Orange Cranberry, Apple Cinnamon, Chocolate-Chocolate Chip, Carrot Raisin, Lemon Poppy Seed, and Banana Bran. Each muffin contains about 90 to 160 calories, 0.5-1 gram of fat, 5-6 grams of fiber and 3-4 grams of protein. The muffin tops contain 100-110 calories, zero grams of fat, 4-5 grams of fiber and 2-3 grams of protein.

Just like the cookies, the muffins are made with natural ingredients like orange peel and fruit purees, and they are super moist with tons of flavor. We were big fans of the Carrot Raisin Muffin Top. It tasted like a slice of rich carrot cake, minus the cream cheese frosting and minus 400 calories!

You can order any of these products from PennysLowFatDesserts.com, or if you’re lucky enough to live in Northern California, you can stop by select Whole Foods, Roseville/Harvest Urban Markets, Lite for Life, and Nature’s Best to pick up a few muffin tops and cookies.

The Five-Piece Sampler offers a great way to sample some of the muffins and muffin tops. The package is $13 and includes free shipping.
