What is it?

Profem is a progesterone cream, used to balance hormones. Profem may be used to reduce the symptoms associated with menopause, as well as help with other hormone related conditions.

Profem is made from natural progesterone, which is thought to help improve mood swings, hot flashes and more. Additionally, users with low progesterone may use this product to balance the progesterone to estrogen ratio.

Femmetrinol is our experts’ top pick for menopause support for its ability to help deal with the long list of symptoms from hot flashes to irritability and low libido. Ingredients include supportive herbs like wild yam, black cohosh and more. Take a look at the herbal bend inside Femmetrinol. Click here for more.

Profem Ingredients and Side Effects

The only active ingredient present in the Profem formulation is 2.5% progesterone. The rest of the formula is made from skin softening agents and binders that make the cream spreadable and easily absorbed by the skin. Here’s a look at how progesterone works inside the body.

Progesterone

Progesterone: Progesterone is a female sex hormone that plays a major role in the function of the reproductive system. It is produced both by the ovaries and the adrenal system and helps regulate menstruation, stimulate sexual desire and prepare the body for pregnancy.

During menopause, progesterone production decreases, which may lead to an imbalance, causing symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, headaches and more.

Progesterone is often derived from plants and is used as a treatment for menopause, PMS, PMDD and other hormone-related conditions.

Progesterone may help women maintain the uterine lining and prevent tissue overgrowth in both the uterus and the breasts. It may also help with hot flashes, mood swings and fatigue.

  • Side effects associated with taking progesterone may include nausea, diarrhea, breast pain or tenderness, increased hair growth, joint pain, bloating, hot flashes, acne, mood swings and more.

Profem Quality of Ingredients

Profem might be a good product, but only if you have low progesterone. It’s not necessarily marketed as an exclusively-menopause oriented solution and users may find it helpful for a number of conditions. Things like an absent menstrual period or PMS and more can be helped by increasing progesterone levels in the body.

But, because this product only contains one active ingredient, its uses are less well-rounded than a menopause pill or cream with multiple active ingredients—which may help users increase estrogen, as well as progesterone and even provide some other key benefits to users dealing with a range of uncomfortable symptoms.

The Price and Quality of Profem

Profem is no longer sold by the manufacturer, Life Extension, nor is it still in stock on the multiple platforms that still maintain a listing such as Amazon and iHerb. It seems as though this item has been discontinued, but consumers may be able to track this product down on some lesser known e-commerce stores.

A seller known as My Supplement Store is currently selling this product for$19.50 for a 2-ounce jar and users may be able to find this for sale on eBay, too.

Because we’re not exactly sure how long this product has been discontinued, we’d advise against purchasing from any online sellers. The product may be nearing expiration and could be rendered ineffective.

Additionally, there’s the risk that this product could be a counterfeit. Buyers looking for a progesterone cream have a variety of options available—options that are still in production and widely available online.

It’s worth noting that there’s nothing special about this formula, as far as we can tell, suggesting it’s any better than any competing cream.  For that reason, we wouldn’t recommend this product as a viable menopause solution.

Business of Profem

Profem was created by a company known as Life Extension. Their contact information can be found below:

Phone: 800-678-8989

Address: 5990 North Federal Highway

Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309

Life Extension sells a number of products from supplements to blood tests and beyond—they currently offer a range of hormone-enhancing products, vitamins and herbal supplements.

The official website gives users the impression that Life Extension is a big company, with the ability to create a website with tons of content, as well as several product lines.

Profem, unfortunately, has been removed from the site, but they do sell another brand, Source Naturals Progesterone Cream, as well as a product known as Progesta-Care.

Everything is laid out in such a way, that consumers can read about potential solutions and learn more about nutrition and self-care, if desired.

The official website offers blood tests to consumers, despite the fact they do not provide users with medical advice in regards to the results. An estrogen test will run users about $200, while the progesterone test is much more affordable, at $40.

While this might be helpful for some users who don’t have insurance coverage, we’re not sure that sending away for test results is preferable to visiting your doctor’s office.

An onsite doctor visit will help provide answers to what’s going on inside your body, as well as help you figure out the best course of action. Life Extension seems to be trying to help people by allowing them to access information, but it’s veering a little too close to telling people they should forego seeing a professional for ongoing health concerns.

Customer Opinions of Profem

There are not all that many Profem reviews, so it’s hard to get a good sense of what this product can really do for potential consumers. Within the small pool of reviewers, many people gave Profem a positive review, though others mentioned it did too little to help with menopause problems:

“Profem has helped reduce my hot flashes and sort of evened out my moods. It’s a relatively inexpensive solution, but it’s not exactly the best. I may try to find something that deals with all menopause concerns.”

“Profem is a really effective product, it’s worked better than some of the other progesterone creams I’ve tried in the past.”

“Look, this might help a little bit with hot flashes and such, but if you want meaningful results, it’s better to get the prescription stuff from your doctor rather than trying to deal with this issue on your own.”

“I don’t think they make this anymore, but I do like this product. It’s pretty great for reducing the symptoms of PMS.”

Profem isn’t necessarily for menopausal women only. Many of the reviewers we came across were women who were still menstruating and were dealing with PMS or uncomfortable periods.

Of the reviewers who mentioned they were in menopause, many stated they felt this product was effective to a certain extent, but didn’t completely relieve all the issues they were currently dealing with.

Profem may be a good solution for women of any age with low progesterone levels, but this isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to menopause-related symptoms. Some women may require more estrogen, too, as well as some supportive ingredients that provide key nutrients to the body as it goes through this change.

Conclusion – Does Profem Work?

Despite the fact that Profem generally has positive reviews, it may not be entirely effective for most women suffering from the full range of menopause symptoms.

Menopause symptoms emerge as a result of the loss of both progesterone and estrogen, and users short on both hormones may not find the relief they are looking for in a cream. With the myriad products on the market, women seeking to address all symptoms, from hot flashes to night sweats and emotional instability are likely better off trying a product that offers a more holistic approach.

Profem could potentially be useful, but it’s probably best for those with a diagnosed case of low progesterone, not necessarily anyone going through menopause.

Another issue with this product is, it may be difficult to find. Entries on Amazon, iHerb and other online platforms still show pricing and reviews, but most list this product as out of stock. There are other progesterone creams out there containing the same ingredients, so there’s no reason for anyone to seek out this particular product.

We’ve reviewed so many supplements targeting hormone regulation and menopause relief, and have come to the conclusion that Femmetrinol works better than competing products to treat the common issues that crop up with menopause, sweating, hot flashes, moodiness, low libido and more.

Femmetrinol is made in a safe, clinical setting, where all ingredients are tested for safety and effectiveness. Click to read more about Femmetrinol and how it can get your menopause symptoms under control.
