Solstice Yoga in Times Square

Interview with Patrick Lynch

by Margaret Badore

You may think that a quiet, peaceful place is key to a successful yoga practice, but thousands of yoga enthusiasts poured into Times Square to celebrate the 2011 summer solstice. Hosted by activewear company Lucy and the Times Square Alliance, the event featured a full day of yoga in the sun. What better day is there to do a sun salutation than on the longest day of the year?

The practice of yoga is all about bringing opposites into harmony. For many of the practitioners, the day offered an opportunity to find inner peace in one of the most hectic, busy places in world. For those who couldn't make it to Times Square, a livestream broadcasted the day's events online.

At 12:30 PM, Patrick Lynch of Bikram Yoga NYC lead a the crowd in a hot and sweaty class. After the session, DietsInReview caught up with Patrick to talk about the session. Patrick has been practicing [Bikram yoga][1] for eight years, and has been teaching since 2005.
