Cat Cow Pose

Saturday Morning Drills: Stretches for Runners

Cat cow pose is the first of the static stretches and so relaxing and easy. Simply get on all fours and arch your back and tuck your chin in toward your chest. Hold for 3 counts, then exhale while lifting head back up and flattening back almost to a bowed position. The two moves are opposite each other in terms of the shape your body makes. Think of the cat pose making a rainbow shape with your back, and the cow making a "U" shape. Each cat-cow motion is 1 rep - complete a total of 15, breathing slowly and controlled throughout.
