Cara's Childhood
About Cara Castronuova
Growing up in Elmont, New York, Cara's introduction to boxing came at a very young age. Five-year-old Cara learned to box from her dad in the family garage. Sadly, his health was poor and he died when she was a teenager.
"Cara basically lost her father at an early age. The mother has to fend for herself, raise Cara with three brothers. So she basically had to learn real quick how to stand up for herself," said Lee Shabaka, Cara's boxing coach, in The History Channel's Warrior Women.
