Hemp Seeds
2012 Super Foods
I am enamored with Hemp Seeds. When I was talking to Sylvie Shirazi, a Los Angeles based Food Photographer/Blogger who shares her recipes at Gourmande in the Kitchen, she completely agreed.
Sylvie said, “In 2012, I think we will see people adding hemp seeds to their grocery shopping list more often. Hemp seeds have a mild and slightly nutty flavor and are a good vegan source of the essential amino acids that our bodies need (2 tablespoons have 11 grams of protein) and have a healthy 3:1 ratio of omega 6 and 3 essential fatty acids."
"They most closely resemble the taste and look of sesame seeds but are slightly softer in texture and nuttier in flavor. What I love about hemp seeds is how versatile they are. They can be used in smoothies, soups or sprinkled on salads very easily, and you can even make dairy-free milk from hemp seeds."
