Tomato Basil Pizza Sauce
This simple pizza sauce makes homemade pizza healthier!
Yield: Serves 6
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup cabernet sauvignon
- 14.5 ounce canned tomatoes (no salt added)
- 1 ounce fresh basil (or more to taste)
- 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Pinch or two Kosher salt
- Cracked black pepper
Instructions
- Heat a skillet to medium-high heat, then add the canned tomatoes, olive oil, pepper and salt. Stir well, then let simmer until it starts to bubble.
- Add the cabernet. Continue to let simmer until the juices thicken.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves. Then, let stand about 10 minutes to cool.
- Pour the sauce in to the blender and blend until desired consistency (briefly for chunky sauce or longer for smooth sauce).
- Use on your favorite homemade pizza crust.
