This simple pizza sauce makes homemade pizza healthier!

71.5 calories/serving

Yield: Serves 6

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cabernet sauvignon
  • 14.5 ounce canned tomatoes (no salt added)
  • 1 ounce fresh basil (or more to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Pinch or two Kosher salt
  • Cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet to medium-high heat, then add the canned tomatoes, olive oil, pepper and salt. Stir well, then let simmer until it starts to bubble.
  2. Add the cabernet. Continue to let simmer until the juices thicken.
  3. Turn off the heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves. Then, let stand about 10 minutes to cool.
  4. Pour the sauce in to the blender and blend until desired consistency (briefly for chunky sauce or longer for smooth sauce).
  5. Use on your favorite homemade pizza crust.
