Activity is important for the extra calories it burns and because it encourages muscle development and muscle burns more calories compared to stored fat. Intense exercise (the kind where you breathe too heavily to carry on a conversation) performed for 45 minutes or more, raises the metabolic rate and burns extra calories for several hours after the exercise is over.
