Assuming you don't have a pre-existing neck injury, it sounds like your pain may be more a form issue than the arm exercises themselves. When you do your exercises, do them seated with your belly button pulled, back straight, shoulders back and chin up. Imagine there is a string from the top of your head up to the ceiling to keep proper form- if you lean forward, even slightly, the muscles in your neck can become tired and begin to hurt. The muscles in your neck are tiny and tend to be weak, so it is very easy to aggravate them. Also make sure to keep your shoulders as relaxed as possible to keep the muscles in the neck relaxed as well.
